Do you really think it will be so different?

Look back at what we THOUGHT we would be doing in the 70's and 80's, flying cars, robotics and cybernetics, colonization of the Moon. What have we got of those? None..

Are we even close?

Hove cars? I've seen some prototypes in the last 10 years.. but given the law of product introduction to the market to common usage, we're not even talking 2100 before thats standard.

Cybernetics? We cant even make robots that look human enough, let alone attach them to the body, and as for understanding the human brain enough to connect it to thought patterns to control said arm? hmm... not much development there either.

Moon/Spacestations...

In 1969 America put a man on the moon, ONLY to beat the russians.. Since then the costs are far too prohibitive to even bother further. I doubt we'll see space stations with living quarters for anyone thats not directly related to the space industry, or uber rich, until 2100 as well..

So, What DO we do.. Electronic entertainment is taking off, with 3DHDTV combined with the reducing costs in VR and reduced costs in twin screen developments in computers, I can arguably say that the idea of a immersive computer environment, not unlike Tad Williams future(Otherworld) could be describing..

So, in the next 20 years, I can see that In home TV environments will be immersive, More people will work from home.. Who needs to rent out office space for workers if the worker can VR interact and do the job from their own place..

Sales people will still have offices, meetings, Board-rooms, travel expenses and show events, but general public will less likely to leave home..

Products will be delivered more and more.. Retails shops will close, Etail shops will take over. Multi-level marketing will replace all the low end goods distribution using facebook style connection networks.

People might become fat.. so probably some kind of user movement based Wii boards will become more popular as control systems..

Why sit still to control Guthar the Barbarian in your WOW world.. when you can gain bonus XP from actually running, jumping and swinging your arms about.. Gaming + exercise what parent would complain about that..

Thats my prediction.. lets see how much of it comes true

Destroyed, or so fucked up it's unlivable.
If that happens I'll oh you a nuka cola.

I highly doubt anything really dramatic will happen.

We'll switch to some advanced renewable or long living energy source, cars will likely cease to be oil driven, and people will still murder one another because their fancy book tells them to.

About the only thing that worries me is biological weapons and I doubt anyone will get that working right.

OT: We might see a shift in global power. 30 years is a long time and the US may not be the dominant force yanking everyone's chain for long. India and China may emerge as first world countries. Hydrogen fuel cell cars may become a common place reducing the demand on fossil fuels. The middle east will probably see another seven invasions. A couple of flora and fauna species may have gone extinct and sea levels would have risen. Humanity will have stumbled upon/accidentally engineered some kind of apocalyptic plague or virus that will see our demise. Hannah Montana would have grown up and become an A list Hollywood celebrity. The PS 10 and Xbox 3600 would be released. We might have robots or at least a very basic version of them to take care of simple chores.

Oh and everything will be shiny and made of glass.

Blah.
Pretty much the same. A bit more land underwater.
As for politics, I think the Liberal Democrats will become more of a serious threat in UK politics which would force Labour and the Tories to taking running our country seriously.
In America, I have a feeling the Republicans will be in next but will do something so stupid that people can't ignore it and then the Democrats will have a spell of dominance.
Japan will continue to be years ahead of the rest of the world in every way except dental care.
Korea will continue to copy everything Japan does but will still be doing it on the cheap.
China will trip on it's own shoelaces.
The middle east will be furious about something, noone will know why.
Angry gamers in Australia will march on Canberra. The government will ignore it and no R18+ will be introduced.
Robert Mugabe will be elected president of Zimbabwe despite being dead.
Canada will do something awesome.
Nelson Mandela will be promoted to God.
Manchester City will win a European trophy which will force the Stone Roses to go on a reunion tour.
Lewis Hamilton will become The Stig.

That'll do. Quote me on all of those.

30 years from now I will be well into my 40s, and that will suck. All other technological advancements and such take a back seat to the fact that I will be a middle-aged man.

God I hope they figure that immortality thing soon.

I'd like to think that in 30 years I'd still look like my 20 year old self (barring any horrifically disfiguring accident in the next 8 months) with some sort of nanotech enhancements. I'd like modern but sibtle things to make their way into our lives as well, I just need to decide what they are...

I think we'd be even more dependant on technology than today and something unethical might happen. I find this song to be good at explain what life would be life across the years. It may not be 30 years from now but its a good song.

Honestly if humanity didn't die off in the dark ages I doubt it ever will.

Short of something out of our control I think we are safe.
