I love a game with good story and gameplay, but most of all the games I always like are the ones set with philosophical questions

I judge games based on how many crabs are involved. (example: Oblivion has tonnes of Crabs, therefore it is a good game. Assasins Creed has zero Crabs, therefore it is a crappy game that must be purged from the ranks of video games.)

I like Crabs

Gameplay and Graphics are the highest to me, a game doesn't necessarily need a story to be a good game.

I also like a good atmosphere such as music that goes well with the surroundings and events.

And I personally love really difficult boss fights.

I'll assume that you simply forgot to mention [a href="http://www.spikything.com/games/crab-ball/"]Crab Ball[/a].

Me, I care about (surprisingly in order) gameplay, controls, and story. How it looks doesn't matter unless my computer can't run it, although that's not very likely these days.

Seriously.

Every time I turn around you are talking about crabs again. It's unsettling.

You must be obsessive about the Half-Life series, then XD

Anyhow, I typically look for games that are either fairly well recommended by fairly intelligent people (ie- anyone who isn't a Halo fan, them being the rabid fanatics that they are, which baffles me to no end...) or off the beaten path a little. I also find some of the older crowd of games still attractive; ie- SNES, Genesis, Saturn, PS1, Older comp games, ect...

I don't really have a specific order, but in short: Controls, story, acting, intuitiveness, originality, and, if possible, a little mind fuckery ^-^

Gameplay and story are the major factors. Games that have something excellent gameplay but mediocre stories will still get bought, though I'd be a bit hesitant on great story and mediocre gameplay. Graphics counts for shit, and art style comes in a close third, tying with music.

First thing's first. I ask myself "did I have fun?" depending on the answer, I will try to find out why I felt that way. Sometimes I'll like or hate a game and not know why.

Graphics and sound don't have to be amazing but they have to be neat. One thing I have noticed is that I like good artwork better than realistic graphics. My suspension of disbelief, balance, and how intuitive and creative a game is definitely helps.

I judge a game mainly by how much it pulls me in. The more it makes me want to play it, the more I like it. So, immersion. The thing is that I don't care HOW the game immerses me, as long as it does so.

I can forgive Wind Waker's long sailing times, low difficulty and the fact that it's just one giant macguffinfest thanks to the wonderful art style, nice intuitive gameplay and amazing music.

Metroid Prime has apalling controls from the standard FPS point of view, but the way the game world looks and sounds pulls you in, and the controls WORK for it. In fact the only real gripe I have with the controls is the difficulty in switching targets and that there's no way to pull a fast 180, but it doesn't MATTER so much.

I'm more than willing to overlook any flaws a game might have if it pulls me in hard enough. I have no universal standard for rating a game because universal standards just don't work. While I don't care much about graphics, I'm not about to shun good graphics if they work. Even unintuitive controls I can handle, as long as it keeps me sucked in. I'll do action, adventure, long grindfests, just about anything other than racing games (and even then I make an exception for F-Zero, despite sucking to death at it) if it entertains me

I think it really only depends on how much fun the game is to play, you don't need amazing graphics look at Castle Crashers or Pokemon, sometimes a plot is integral to the game like in an rpg but not in every case, and many other things that are superficial aren't always necessary to mak a good game.

Its its fun then i continue to play, if its a chore then i stop. Actually i usually play games through to the end whatever but i never replay games i found boring.
I think this is why i like games that got lower scores alot of the time.

I judge it by the gameplay and how well the beginning is, if I don't like it, I usually just turn it off

If I think it's decent, I'll continue on for a bit and see what comes outta it.

If I really like it, I'll continue playing it
