My trademark style is "get lost and backtrack through linear levels" In half life 2 i spent FOUR FUCKING HOURS trying to get past this floodgate, only to realize at some point i got turned around and i was trying to get back the way i came.

Erm if its RPGs i always explore especially when its games like fallout 3 where you know have to get most done first time coz you know. But if its shooters i just rush it then do over in more detail.

All depends on the genre. RPGs I tend to take my time with and find something near a strategy for; platformers and more action-oriented games I'll explore after the first visit to an area; fighting games, I'll...

...Huh. Actually, I haven't played a new fighting game in so long, I forgot how I go about playing those at first.

I used to be a rabid completionist, but more recently I have actually just been trying to get through the main game and going back to do the side quests if I feel that they were worth it.

In Fallout 3 and Oblivion, when I first played it, I'd start a character, then start again once I'd got used to the game. No idea why. Other games I blast through, then go back for hidden stuff (Halo 3 skulls, CoD4 intel)

I'll explore, bust many a dungeon,do every possible side quest, and when I run out of those I'll do some story...

...until I unlock more side quests.

The question is simple, do you take your time, explore the enviroment, think of strategy's(typo, but I'm not gonna go open up the dictionary for that...), or do you just run and gun trough the game(figure of speech obviously, I don't mean just first person shooters)? Or do you have your own style of how you play?

When I started gaming, I was more on the "just get trough the game" side, but now I really like to pay attention to every single detail of the game, exploring as much as possible, thinking of the best way to get from A to B, etc. It just adds to the game, you get more time out of it and its more fun.
You need the dictionary to know that the plural of a word ending in -y is -ies?

On topic, I'm not much of a completionist. 100% completion isn't my thing. I'm more about discovery, exploration, and overall experimenting. I'll quicksave, do something crazy, see if it works, load do something else that is crazier, see if it works, load again. Games like Arkham Asylum are perfect for this (let's see if I can take down these 5 thugs using only inverted takedowns!)

I like to do everything everywhere all the time.

Also, sort of on topic, I just realized that Fallout 3 is better than Oblivion. I guess I'll have to just be a general Bethesda fanboy then.

Depends on what sort of game I'm playing. Strategy games- particularly the turn-based breed- I tend to take slowly, almost leisurely. RTS a little more frantic, since I have to pay attention to what's going on.

Platformers, FPS, space combat sims and the like I tend to play at a pace that keeps my attention. If I can get it to feel like a movie, well, all the better.

The last type of game I play are point-and-click adventures. Those are linear enough that I tend to just play them for the story, or to get the best ending if there's more than one ending. (Or the humorous death commentary, in the case of certain ancient Sierra titles.)

I used to focus on "beating" the game and seeing how fast I could finish it. But as games have, generally, gotten more involved in some kind of story and more complex, I've given up on that and now try to focus on taking my time and getting the most out of each level/scene/part of the game.

It really just depends. I rushed through Arkham Asylum on Easy and then did a second playthrough on Hard difficulty much slower and more thorough. But while playing the Godfather 2, I did it thorough the first time around.

If the game is good I will get through it as fast as possible and play it several more times for exploration and to play it a different way.

If the game is terrible I either don't get passed Act one or I play through it 100% and never look at it again.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that.
And don't worry, English isn't my first language either ^^
