How do YOU play multiplayer?

So both me and my brother enjoy games and playing online. The difference is that I prefer playing on my own and my brother ALWAYs plays with friends, often in 7/8 player parties. Now this could be because my friends don't tend to play online and lots of his friends do. I'm older than him but even when I was his age I always preferred playing on my own.

So I was wondering which YOU prefer? On your own? With friends? Or making new friends around the world?

Im pretty much a loner and prefer single player most of the time but if I do play multiplayer I prefer to play with friends ideally offline but online is ok as well. Trouble is the odds that even one of my friends is about online the same time as me playing the same game or even owns the same game is pretty small (as in once a month if you are lucky).

The only games I will play against strangers are those that require no cooperation such as deathmatch on fps (which I rarely play) and numerous beat em ups but again I prefer these with friends its just so much more fun for me.

So yeah I prefer on my own most of the time but for multiplayer friends all the way.

I'm a single player most of the time.

Offline multiplayer is an impossibility these days as I don't have anyone to play with. Online with friends is ok for co-op, but they're pussies who don't like player-to-player battle so I just do that with strangers.

Either single player or online with friends. I know for 100% fact the general public is stupid (work in retail, you will learn soon enough), so I avoid as much extra stupidity as possible.

But both hands on the controller, pushing whatever buttons are required.

But no, I find every game is better with friends, but rarely do I need to play with friends to make the game enjoyable. I would much rather play Call of Duty with a bunch of mates than play it alone, but that's not to say I don't find it fun on my own.

The only game that I can think of that I'll only play if friends are playing with me is Gears of War. I just find it dull on my own.

That's usually how I feel too, unless I get lucky and find a really great server with awesome people, like the TF2 one I hung out on for the better part of a year. If I hadn't found them within the first few days of getting the game way back whenever, I probably wouldn't've kept playing it for more than a week.

Random strangers in games are pretty much the bane of my existence if I'm expected to actually interact with them at all in any way beyond putting everyone on mute and just playing the game, which mostly only works for competitive games, and even then only for non-team-based ones. I really do like co-op games a lot, but I almost exclusively stick to playing them with my friends (and rarely people I meet on forums for the games, if I get a sense that we'd get along and are reasonably well matched), because I'm just so tired of the endless number of people out there who just ruin my day, intentionally or not. Some of them are on purpose, griefing or trolling, and some of them are well-intentioned but accidental, just because of poorly matched skill levels and personalities between us, but I'd rather just go do something else and wait for someone I know to show up than take my chances based on the number of failures I've had. It's not like I don't have more than enough things to catch up on from the last Steam sale in the meantime, or plenty of non-game things to do while waiting. Heh.

My friends don't play much, and most of my online games are on the Xbox which they don't have, so I usually solo it. We do a bit of L4D2, though, and some BF3 recently.

Most games, especially the good ones, are a lot easier and more fun if you have a good team. The best way to get a good team is to personally choose your teammates. However, sometimes it's fun just to meet new people, and try your luck with randoms. If you're better than them, then you'll look like you're good. If they're better than you, then you might just learn something.

Except for Team Fortress 2, I generally only play with long-time friends. Don't really have an issue playing with new friends or from friendly guilds or sites (like this one) but it's hard for me to keep to any sort of schedule.

If I could I would run big with a full team with everyone communicating frequently with mics but my cousin prefers either lone wolf or split screen with me and rarely another friend. It's his account which we both worked on since he lives downstairs so together we reached 15th prestige level 50 but still it's his account and he's older so he plays how he wants. He doesn't like to make friends he doesn't know in person which is understandable I guess if you would actually go out of your way to play with them but laissez faire.

I avoid online play for the most part.

The odd game I'll give the experience and chance but I've never been rewarded with a good experience let along anything that competes with the enjoyment of single player. I suppose if I could play online against or with friends I'd do so...but this is extremely difficult to achieve in reality and as such simply doesn't happen.

As a kid though I loved 2-4 player split screen games. Those were the days when multiplayer were great for me.

I play with friends. As many as possible. I like to have friends in a party talking to me, and friends on my team backing me up. It's the only way to play for me.

Poorly.

With or without friends. Except for perhaps in Halo. When anything becomes truly competitive i lose all my optimism for the game. I use the tactic "Last one in, last one alive."

I tend to play with friends mostly but I could say I go it alone just as much.
In terms of play style? I am a gentleman... until I get rowdy.

It really depends on the situation. Sometimes, I like to play by myself. Sometimes, I like to kick ass with friends. I have about as good of a time either way, but the jokes are better when I'm playing with buddies. And one of my friends can record games, so we can relive the epic victories and learn from epic failures.

With a controller.

Badum tish

When I play Left 4 Dead 2 on line I'm usually in a party of my friends. (because It's really hard to Play L4D with strangers)

When I play Assassins Creed Bro on line I usually keep to my self {meaning I never wear a mike)

When I play Reach on line I'll talk to the random people if they're the loquacious types (They aren't usually so I'll just breath heavily into the mike)
