Being forced to share game systems with my boyfriend (and until recently, another roommate), accidentally saving over someone else's game file (or someone else deleting one of mine) has unfortunately become an annoying reality in our home.

A few notable incidents include:

- My first playthrough of Twilight Princess (Wii): Got about halfway through, then my boyfriend (who had up to this point barely even touched the Wii), decided to start his own playthrough of the game. He attempted to save and somehow selected my file by mistake, forcing me to start over (wasn't too happy about that).

- Accidentally saved over my boyfriend's Fallout3's save file, thus reducing countless hours of roaming the wasteland to nothing. Twice... We solved this by me creating a separate account on our PS3.

- Got curious about FFXIII after watching my boyfriend play it and decided to try it out, only he didn't realize I had taken an interest in it and saved over my file, thinking it was his own. Didn't mind much though, I found it boring and haven't played since.

Now that I've shared a few of my own mishaps with you guys, I'd like you to share yours with me. Tell me how you ended up loosing your saved game, and how you reacted to it.

I don't know, my save files usually seem pretty tight. I've never had a problem with them getting to loose.

...Sorry. (it's just one O)

OT: It depends on how much time I've spent and how much I like the game. I lost an over 100 hour file in San Andreas, so I had to destroy a few things.

Corrupt files are a big one

Then there were the times I wasn't paying attention and overwrote my save files, especially on the PS2 baulders gate game.

Also the time I told me lil brother to be careful not to save over my file on fallout 3 (had about 17 hours worth of game time) he didn't listen very well...

I could create a large range of them, but to some up how I felt each time in one word...

Fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!

I just lost an NHL 10 Be a GM file thanks to corrupted data. Normally I have multiple save files to protect against this and other people saving over my shit but on this occasion I did not have one. I lost about 100 - 150 hours of my life right there. I raged on the inside but acted like a zen master on the outside.

This is not the first time this has happened to me either. I have also lost an NHL 07 Career mode file to corrupted data, a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas file that was about 80% complete because my friend Swan saved over it, and I have lost saved data from Vandal Hearts 2 seven different fucking times before I was finally able to beat it.

I just get mad and stare angrily at the game for a few weeks before playing it again. So far, the most recent one was VVVVV, but I was not far so I suspect I shall get back to that soon.

Continuing the trend of talking about overwritten San Andreas files:
I had poured a lot of time into this save file. I had used absolutely no cheats, and had several billion dollars gained though my awesome blackjack skills (Rock star must have rigged in the players favour). Anyway, my brother also had a save file which we called the Riot save; we used it whenever we wanted to cheat and blow the c**p out of everything we saw after moving to a highly populated area. Anyway, after mucking around in the riot save, I accidentally saved over my awesome save, causing me to rage like there was no tomorrow.

My brother kept saving over my oblivion files, losing me an hour or so each time. "Accidently". But was seven times an accident?

So I "Accidently" saved over his. Both of his. (He always saves two at the end of a session)
Pfft. He deserved it. He was jealous that I had managed to get so good at it so quickly.

I recently lost one of my Minecraft saves after it got corrupted (or something. It refused to load up). I raged obviously.

I once lost everything on my 360 hard drive.
I lost hunderds if not thousands of hours so I rage punched the wall a few times.
The most painful thing to lose were my lost Mass effect playthroughs because it happend a week before Mass effect 2 came out. -.-

I compulsively save games, but sometimes I get a strange urge to not save. It doesn't usually result in me losing much progress, but once in Dragon Age I finished an incredibly tough dungeon (I think it was the anvil of the void), went back, sold loot, talked to companions in party camp, and then got waylaid and killed by bandits on the road to Denerim. I lost quite a lot of progress.

I once saved over my Tales of Symphonia save file. It was after I finished the game, I didn't know you would not be able to continue playing it. So I saved over my previous save.. When I tried playing it again it started a new game+. Words can't describe the emotions I felt. I had 100+ hours on that save. That little mishap is the reason I have multiple save files for every single one of my games that supports it. I have 100~ Fallout 3 saves on my Xbox360 HDD.. I saved every half-hour. The save count is in the 800's.

How do i react to losing hours of data?... a couple forks in my kompewter screen makes me feel better... until i relise i break it.

i gueass i should give an example soooooooooo... when downloading a song from a site my friends referred me to, it downloaded a virus which wiped my data of games, im talking Fallout 25hours, Divinty2 34 hours, Oblivion 28hours and last but not least Mount&Blade 47hours.

... lol add all those hours together and thats how many forks are in my kompewter screen currently.

I usually react by taking a long break from the game, at worst it's just too aggravating to go over all that content again, at best it's just too boring to go over all that content again and the break is much shorter.
Most recently it was with Golden Sun Dark Dawn. Though i technically still have the save, i recently realized that i will NOT eventually be able to return to some areas of the game in order to collect any digin or summons i missed. 4 hours of gametime have been lost because i missed one digin and a summon i'll probably never use. I mean honestly this is the first time this has happened in a Golden Sun game, i want to know who's idea it was to put digin in areas you would not be able to return to again.

*EDIT* i'll definitely use the digin, it's the summon i probably won't use. it's not like it's make or break that i missed him but i can't possible finish the game with that nagging feeling that i missed one digin and now cannot possibly achieve my full potential in that game.

I once overwrote my best F3 save with a level 14 guy that look incredibly similar to Commissioner Gordon. I was pretty annoyed at first, but got over it quickly.
