How do you recover from gamer rage?

Do this for about 10 minutes: Continue playing. Scream. A lot. Very loudly. Use many obscenities (my personal favorite is "cock-juggling thunder ****").

If luck doesn't improve in that time or you don't calm down, rage-quit and play something with a lot of easy-kill enemies or watch a good movie. Something that will either relax you or make you go "YEAH!" King Kong and Inglorious Basterds respectively work for me.

I usually and purposely take apart my 360 controller and clean it with some rubbing alcohol getting rid of all the dirt and sweat and possible drink spillage on it contantly reminding myself that it i screw up the board inside i have to buy another 65$ (CAD) controller that i really dont have the money to do. It's really relaxing.

I don't rage.
I find it rather hard to get upset by such trivial things like losing in a game.
Now if you killed someone I liked, I'd probably annihilate you, but that's unlikely to happen.

I don't go in for much in the way of competitive multiplayer stuff, so I rarely have reasons to be furious, but even so I don't think playing an FPS online could really tick me off, since getting killed by other people is an expected outcome. Dying because the game did something cheap and you have to replay hours of content, well that is worthy of a lengthy and expletive laced rant, but dying by itself? Nah.

Its not dying itself its the fact that people exploit cheap tactics like putting on a perk that makes them run at light-speed and running up to you with duel shot-guns, or camping in a spot where they can see you perfectly but you can't see them that ticks me off.

One of these three. Go clean something, but that only works with minor frustration. For the Gaming Rage that comes from a newbish Raid Wipe or repeated cheap death, jogging or sex. Recovering after a horrendous PvP run, one time, resulted in my husband as a pretzel with a smile.
