I tend to say the US, or "the states" when I am talking and typing. I might occasionally say America, but one of my roommates will instantly mention Argentina, Mexico and all that as he has travelled there and yet never been to the states. So I say the states or the US to avoid confusion.

The US, if only to distinguish it from Canada and Mexico, as well as the whole of South America. Mainly because I get fed up of people only thinking Britain = England. I have been told before that I am Scottish and therefore not British. Basically, I get pissy over little things.

I refer to it as The US most of the time, though depending on the tone of the discussion I may say us instead.

It varies, although I don't say "USA" very oten for some reason, probably even less than I say "The US of A".

I usually say the U.S. or America, depends on what time of day, my general mood and my present company.
