Just in general, how do you sleep? I ask this because sleep is so important for good health.

In the last year I've slept an average of 6:59 hours, of which whas 68% in deep or REM sleep. For some reason I sleep about half an hour less when it's full moon, and two hours more when I'm visiting my parents and relatives.

I usually fall asleep around 2 am, and wake up around 9. I should be trying to get some more sleep, but life is hectic :( Love tracking my sleeping habits though.

A good average is 7 hours. Ideally 8, can go as low as 6 and keep it "healthy". Anything below is no good.

I go to bed around 10.30- 11.00 depending if I'm working on the next day or not. I also sleep on my side. As for the amount of sleep I get, it varies (I'm a light headed sleeper so it annoyed me to no end if the tiniest sound wake me up).

Terribly.

I'm lucky to get 3 hours of solid sleep with 8 hours in bed. I wake up a lot during the night and toss and turn.

My sleep times do change because of work, but I'm usually in bed by 1am latest. My wake up times range from 4:30am to 1pm depending on what shift I'm working.

I also get semi-regular sleep paralysis, which is fun. I could spend ages whining about that but I won't. :D

But recently, terribly. Like to the point where I get 18 hours in roughly a week. It's been...interesting.

So, a couple of years ago, I started exercising to sleep better. But, I'm not sure it's helped, as I still have trouble sleeping at least once a week. I also don't remember how many nights I had trouble sleeping before I started exercising, because I didn't keep a chart. I've had trouble sleeping at least 2 nights a week for the past 3 weeks.

Sleep is weird. Every night we fall unconscious and then hallucinate wildly, and this is considered completely ordinary.

I generally struggle to get to sleep then struggle even more to get up, I'm strongly allergic to dust mites and affected most at night, and even something as quiet as a clock ticking can be enough to keep me from falling asleep, so sleep and sleep deprivation is a topic close to my heart! I tend to get less sleep than I really need throughout the week, then sleep-in all Saturday/Sunday morning to make up for it.

Moderately well, eventually. I can't remember the last time I fell asleep before midnight. But then I like the night, so it's not so bad really - I get most of that time to myself, and get to choose who to talk to.

Well I have to go through a painful routine to get to sleep.

I get ready for bed, sit on the computer for a little bit, get into bed, browse the net in the dark on my phone (and now the tricky bit), lay on my left side for a bit until it's not that comfortable, lay on my right side for a bit until it's not that comfortable, roll back over to my right and then I usually fall asleep ... if not, it's going to be a long night.

If I do have a rough nights sleep, I can't nap 'cos that will screw me up for about 3 weeks! If I get time off work and I start going to bed at 3 or 4 am, then I have a nightmare of a time sorting my sleeping pattern out again. Last time it happened I got 40 mins (seriously!) sleep then I had to be in work ... I work as a chef and probably killed a few people (not really).

Another weird point for me is, I don't dream ... I know you will probably say "everybody dreams" really? Everybody? People have all kinds of weird and wild deformations and mental issues but 100% of people ever dream, always? I have had the occasional dream but I can remember 1 dream and know I've had like 3 other dreams but don't remember any details of them. I just go to bed and a few hours later wake up.

Carefully. I recently came off a nasty bout of chronic insomnia. Was on ambien for about a year as a result, until my doctor had me wean off of it. Also managed to wean off of taking over-the-counter meds every night as well, save for melatonin. So provided that I'm in bed around 2am, am careful about blue light, and am really careful about any caffeine taken in the pm hours, I can get about eight hours or so. I do keep a bottle of zzzquil tablets next to my bed in case of a bad night, but have to wait at least three days between use, because damn you build up tolerance to those things real fast.

i'm not really a sleeper i guess. i usually go to bed around 2 or 3 am, and i wake up when the kids get up, so usually around 5:30, or 6 am. so yes, i get between 2 and half and 4 hours of sleep each night. sometimes a little bit more, sometimes a little bit less. plus i usually sleep half an hour on my lunch break.

but when i go to bed, i get asleep very fast

...What's sleep? ...OHHHH oh yeah yeah yeah it's that thing humans do to waste time and be healthy or something like that.

Uhmmmm I can best describe my sleep patterns in the vein of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, who taught me at a young age that I actually hate sleeping anyway so I'll never complain about why I can't sleep.

Also usually on my back with my cat sleeping on my stomach. I don't pay enough attention to tell how much sleep I get on average, though. Just not something I really think about.

Not very well. I have a hard time falling asleep. Even in ideal conditions, dark, silent, warm and comfortable I can lie with my eyes closed attempting to sleep for hours on end.

Its kinda' infuriating. My dad and brother can fall asleep in literal minutes when their head hits the pillow! Takes on average an hour for me of actively attempting to fall asleep to get it done.

Hehe, for a more serious answer: I tend to sleep well. My issue is that I go to bed way too late, but generally try to get at least 6 hours of sleep. The only thing that sucks is that while my brain is unwinding and attempting to go into rest mode, it has a habit of making me remember embarrassing/stupid/regretable things that I did 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago. Then my eyes pop back open and I say "God I was such a fucking dumbass!......when I was 13. >.>" then continue to be haunted by the memory for another couple minutes before my brain tries to rest again and rolls the dice to see if I get to finally go to sleep or if it'll drag up another "Hey fuck-nuts, remember when you did this back in 6th grade?"

Looking at screens before sleeping is apparently HORRENDOUSLY bad for the quality of your sleep. Something about the blue light.

OT: I sleep...okay. 6-7 hours a night, generally, aiming for 8. I have a furry little alarm clock who usually truncates it by a good 20-30 minutes in the morning, and I don't always fall asleep immediately, hence the 6-7. Anything less than 6.5 and I'm in rough shape the next day. On weekends it's usually 6+3, with the break required to feed the cat.

Sleep is super duper important. As important as diet and exercise, really. It's amazing how much fucked up nonsense you can encourage by getting insufficient sleep.

Is this an aggressive question like "how do you even sleep at night, after all those atrocities, you monster?!" Well let me tell you! A healthy dose of medication prescribed by my doctor to forget about my atrocities help me reach a completely natural, human-like sleep. No one suspects a thing! And who told you about those? Goddamn Doctor/patient confidentiality my arse! Oops, rambled again. My lawyer says i must stop doing that.

I sleep badly. I tend to try to go to bed around 9 or 10, due to me being old and having to get up at 5:30 for work. I sadly wake up every one to three hours usually due to screaming or a sharp pain in my side.

Let me tell you a newborn, plus a sharp elbowed wife can cause serious sleeping issues.

Usually I manage to get 7-8 hours of sleep.

Unfortunately, I've started having difficulty sleeping and will consider it a good night if I can get five hours down straight.

Incidentally, since this is a fairly open ended topic, here is another thing we can talk about, sleep positions.

I generally sleep curled up and have recently somehow started falling asleep curled up with an arm under my pillow. I don't know why, it's not even an old habit, it's something I've started doing in the last six months. I can't understand though how people can stand to sleep on their backs though. I just can't stop the urge to shift about.
