Inebriate![footnote]I know, I'm surprised people didn't mention it sooner too![/footnote]

Seriously though, if I have trouble sleeping, alcohol knocks me out, and I don't even need that much of it; if I'm slightly tipsy I'll be asleep before head hits pillow. I know everyone reacts differently though, so it's not a serious suggestion.

I have an incredibly fucked up sleep pattern, which is compounded as my mind is at it's most active past midnight, so I feel like playing games or reading or playing guitar more than any other time. Hard to sleep after when my brain is so stimulated.
Unlike you, it's pretty much my own fault.

Edit: I just remembered the greatest cure for insomnia ever. It's so potent it can make me fall fast asleep when I'm fully clothed, and sitting upright, surrounded by people and being completely bright: Lectures.

This isn't an attempt at wit either, lectures knock me out. And this is when I'm actually tyring to pay attention, and poking myself in the leg constantly with a pen. If it's a lecture on electrical circuits, well, I'm gone before 5 past.

[small]Maybe that's why I failed...[/small]

Well, I spend an hour listening to muscing and just reading or just doing nothing. Basically before sleep try relaxing yourself because it helps a ton, heck having a bath with some nice bubblebath can work wonders. Just try and relax your body and well all else fails grab a blanket, curl up on the sofa and midless watch tv, that might do the trick. Warm milk can help but in end, I guess it depends on why you're not sleeping

I don't mean, 'do you sleep well'? I mean... how do you manage it? I'm sat here at 4am and I meant to be in bed a couple of hours ago, but I can't sleep. I'm not even drowsy - so if I'm not ready to be in bed in 30 minutes after I've drank my hot chocolate, I'm downing a sleeping tablet - even though half of one knocks my girlfriend unconscious, a whole one for me only guarantees 3 hours or so of sleep, so it's not an ideal solution.

So yeah - what do you lot do to secure unconsciousness? I've tried the 'lying there til you fall asleep' but that's a pretty boring way to spend 3 hours if you ask me, so I'm looking for alternate answers.

Well, there's an app on the iPhone called iBrainWave. It can both energize and relax you by outputting a specific frequency of sound, that for lack of a better word, tunes your brain to a certain level of activity. Listen to it for 15 on Sleep setting (about 4 hertz on frequency) and you'll begin to feel tired enough to sleep.

Hope this helps. Sweet dreams!

Just stay awake for a long time doing stuff like reading a book, watching a movie, browsing the Internet and so on. Sooner or later it is physically impossible for you to stay awake.

I can't sleep either but that's because the bed here is horrible, this room smells weird and it's about 80 goddamn degrees in here with no windows.

If you're very overweight I think that might rage on your ability to sleep, saw that on Penn & Teller once. (No offense meant to you, but if you are overweight then this might be your problem in this case)

Aside from that, tension will keep you awake, as will insufficient amounts of physical activity during the day. Aside from this, don't nap, don't get anything with caffine after 4 pm and just be sure you have a quiet, dark spot where you are warm while you sleep.

Oh and while you shouldn't eat immidiatly before you sleep, going to bed on an empty stomach can also cause issues (if you're already having issues sleep).

I hope this information proves usefull to you.

Nothing quite substitutes monkey fucking though. Hurm. Find someone else to monkey fuck.
Where the hell am I going to find a Monkey around here? Also they take a lot of looking after.

OT: I like to read a book for a while and then simply fall asleep. Late night Radio 4 is also useful sleep aid. Today in Parliament and the Shipping forecast are bound to knock you out.

I just curl my self up in to a ball, with the blankets wrapped around me and then I let myself drift of to sleep.

well i used to have roughly the same sleep time as a sloth but nowadays after staying out all night frequently during summer i dont sleep during weekdays, if i do its 1-3 hours.

Then come saturday i collapse for the rest of the weekend. Im hoping this is just after affects of summer though, there is no worse feeling than being awake as my alarm goes off. which incidentally is the sound of a fog horn, so it scares the shit out of me.
