(Just so you know Ive only played Dawn of war game, which i get a feeling its a poor substitute lore wise from the board game)So how does one stop an ork invasion with losing a planet? cause i thought if you beat an ork army it would only attract more and more of them until they eventually win.

I'd guess that beating so many of them that there aren't any more to attract would do the trick.

There's no specific formula, really - even the most accepted strategy basically comes down to cutting and hoping. What usually works best is to take out the Boss who has united the Waaaaagh! in the first place; if you're lucky, all the different Ork tribes will fall into disarray and start killing each other... if you're unlucky a new Boss will emerge out of the chaos. Either way, there's still no guarantee that the planet will not be lost.

yeah, Kill da Boss, and the rest will crumble, this is the same as the Greenskins in Fantasy, but you might also want to ensure that their shamans dont survive.... stupid Gazbag

It is not possible in wh40k universe. Only full scale orbital bombardment aka purging, works. Orks are pretty much mushrooms. Even if you beat the main force and cut them down there will still be spores hidden all over the planet. According to WH40K lore, Orks were created long time ago as a perfect warrior race, that gets stronger and bigger with each fight, won or lost, unlimited in numbers.
The planet would have to be destroyed or drained form all life for them to not be able to re populate.

pieplates and flame templates get the job done.

lore wise you hold and wait for the astartes to come and save your ass if its a full blown waaagh though most aren't and are just small scale stuff. the wars for Armageddon now they are proper waaghs i mean seriously they practically have to get thousands of guard regiments and practically nearly every space marine chapter ever shows up and they still barely beat off the orks.

Lots and lots of shiny objects.

That or make the fighting really boring so that they leave. But that would probably involve surrendering, or dying, or something like that.

10 point plan
1-Fight back
2-Bigger Guns
3-Even bigger guns
4-Alot of people die
5-eventually win
6-more come
7-Repeat steps 1-6 until you go with step 8
8-Give up
9-Go home
10-eat cookies
At least thats what happens when i play Dawn of War

What would a "proper" WAAAUUGH! be that requires nearly all of the Imperium best soldier to fight off? By that i mean how large was the force and how many tribes were involved?

Well, you don't have to kill all the Orks. Just create a warp-related time paradox and mess with their heads. It has been done.

Yes, I am reffering to the story of that one warboss who went back in time through a warp rift or something in order to kill himself and get 2 copies of his favorite gun. This confused everything soo much the WWAAGGHH!! was called off.

Ork player here. There are actually plenty of ways to stop a Waaagh.

1: Find a second warboss / waaagh, lead him/them to the first waaagh, and let them fight over who's warboss/waaagh is better. Mop up the survivors.

2: Leave the planet. Mass evacuation. Don't give the orks anyone to fight and if they don't immediately turn on themselves then they will just leave to find someone to fight. Mop up the survivors.

In one story in the Ork Codex, a Warboss lead his waaagh through the warp and actually emerged a hour before they left, right next to their past selves. This immediately lead to a fight to see who was better, and the mass confusion from the boys brought both waaaghs to a stop.

It's like starting a Kodiak bear infestation to kill off your rat problem.
It's actually more likely for Orks to be lured into fighting Tyranids. Letting 'Nids feed off whole planet strengthens the Hive Fleet so much that it is too much of a risk.

but then you gotta deal with the bears :p
Then you reverse engineer the bear venom and directly inject it into the tubes that the bears use to suck the planet dry. Then in the bear's weakened state it sends out it's strongest boss against you, at which point you die and replay the level a few times until you inevitably set the cheat codes on and burn the bastard.

You don't 'stop' a waaaaagh, the best you can do is fervently hope that you can hold out agaist it long enough for it to be distracted by a more pressing opponent, eg. a tyranid hive fleet.

Generally, WAAAAGH!'s of any sufficent size are only held together by the authority/size/'ooliganism of the Boss. Kill him, and it's a safe bet that they'll fall to fighting amongst each other. Almost no way to save the planet they're on, though, short of sending down triple their numbers in Imperial Guard, and half their numbers in Marines. And Titans. Lot's of Titans.
