Ya I read the textbook...a lot, notes don't do much for me, I'd rather read the text and read the notes on things that aren't in the book. Then again my studying takes place the day before the exam so that could be an issue too.

I'm sure by study, you don't mean writing, especially of the thought-centric variety, but regardless: very short, quick distractions. Clearly the escapist is one such for me. Quick youtube vids, getting up for a drink, snack, bathroom, playing with cats, chatting, stretching, dance parties, music exploration, fish watching/feeding...all this works, so long as it's short lived. Sometimes I plan on staying up late working, but get sucked into these distractions, but it's not that hard to stay focused if you actually are already.
Anyway, my point is that abbreviated distractions are necessary to keep you stimulated; give you a breath for your thoughts to settle, digest, and ferment; and really just keep you feeling human.

Anyway, good luck with finals.

How do I study? I don't. I go to class every time, participate in in-class discussions, listen intently to the instructor, and when test time comes, either I know the material or I don't. Usually the former, as my 4.0 GPA attests.

oh, but if I can suggest music: jazz--usually small ensembles, often piano centric--and classical--well, let's just say sonatas--work very well for reading. For writing, post rock and shoegaze is ideal, but more energetic jazz and classical is great too.
I guess with simple memorization, music that focuses on singing can work, but I'd recommend for the heavier lifting that you wean yourself away onto the instrumental stuff.

I've actually never studied, was in the top 15% of my high school and still have yet to study in college. I just tend to soak things in as they are said to me. However, I bet a billion that this'll change with the later years of college.
This pretty much. Didn't study much in university but I did have to do a shitload of assignments. Other than that I just remembered most of the things on the exam so I don't really see the need.

Via a lack of motivation and lots of cramming on the last day before an exam/ assignment day... having some chillout tunes and lots of chocolate helps a lot too.

S-s....study?!

*2nd year arts student*
Arts? What kind of arts? Acting? Painting? If so, I'm sure you still have things to take home and if so what do you do when you're doing homework at home?

hmm. it takes me a while to get "warmed up" to study. i'll watch a few ZPs or AVGNs or something before I start. But I'm pretty OK once I get started. One thing for me though is I'm not a very good multi-tasker (strengthening my belief that i fail as a woman), so I can't listen to music while studying, which really sucks.

One of my subjects I don't need to study for, and English, I just study and revise in class. I rarely study at home but still come out with Bs/Cs so it's not too bad.

Well I have just finished my dissertation, after two consecutive all-nighters. Just waiting for the uni print shop to finish binding it then it's getting handed in.

For some reason I tend to work better late at night, I become nocturnal when essays are due! I need to have to right music though, instrumental preferably, lyrics distract me!

I don't study.

I know that this can't work for everyone, but I go to every class take sparse notes that I will review/skim the morning of the exam. The notes I take are of things that I know I won't remember (certain terminology, names, dates, etc. I write those things down with a short description of what each of is).

The trick is to be an active listener in class. Pay attention, process, and internalize information while sitting in class. In cases where the information being presented logically progresses from a point (like in a math class) move ahead of the prof. as much as you can.

This has worked pretty well for me. (Currently a senior working on my B.S. in Psychology).

I just study! I'm the kind of guy that juggles computers and school in a good balance.

I study when I have to, like I've got my 2nd year uni exams in a few weeks and I know I won't start revising until the night before.
