It's sad that they get annoyed, and it's sadder that you think it matters.

Much of the time, I'm playing games without mikes, and I can't tell, and you know what? I don't give a shit either way. How do girls feel about being beaten by guys? What insanity is it that makes people see the world through that lens? The anonymity of a gaming handle is a great equaliser. Race, age, gender, all of them are at once irrelevant. Personally, I kind of like it. I've had very few games outside of limited communities where people have been civil, or even intelligible.

It kind of reminds me of a game of BC2 I had, where this person on the other team just kept all capsing the global chat, about how she was a chick, and she was beating a bunch of players. When I told her to shut up, she's like, "What, because I'm a girl?"
"No, I don't give a shit either way, more power to you. Just stop being a twerp."

There's your PSA: Can we all just stop being twerps about what things are between our legs? Thanks.

I wouldn't care at all. If somebody beats me at a game it means one thing and one thing only, that they played better in that game than I did. The fact that it is a man or a woman who beat me is irrelevant. The mere fact that you get attitudes like that is part of the reason that nerd culture has not become mainstream, that it has become a haven for sociopaths and misogynists who use their interests as an excuse for their current situation, rather than admit that they are the cause of their predicament (ie, guys who say 'I can't get a girlfriend because no women can accept that I like D&D, when the actual reason they are still single is because they are unpleasant, misogynistic arse-holes).

I don't see gender as a restriction to gaming.

If you're good at a game, and you're female, more power to you.

I don't care whether it's a woman or a man who beats me, it's a player and we are the same behind a keyboard.

Same way I take being beaten by a guy: Lot's of swearing, ragequit and threatening messages afterwards.
That was a joke, but I really don't care about who it is beats me, as long as I have fun (and preferably place a bullet between their eyes after I respawn).

I had a really good friend who was a female gamer, and into really hardcore stuff like myself.
She would beat me at games frequently.

Didn't think anything of it, really. She was better at some games than I was and vice versa.

I don't play a lot of competitive online anymore, and when I did I tended not to talk to people that much, remaining mute and muting others, but when I did it didn't really bother me. Why would it? If I say, were beat by a girl, and she was being a dick about it, I might be annoyed, but I would be annoyed if I were beat by a guy and he was being a dick about it... so equally I guess.

Go me, I'm all for equal rights and shit. I'm so awesome.
(sarcasm, I feel I have to label that, because apparently it's not clear enough when I say things like that one facebook, considering the cloud of anonymus hatemail I got a few days ago for being an arrogant twat.)

I don't care if I lose a round to anyone. It's refreshing to go up against competent opponents. :D

I kind of feel more positive about it than when getting beaten by a guy. (Although I tend to be fine regardless and take it as a challenge)

It just seems like a little bit more of an achievement for a woman (who is obviously recognisable as a woman, for whatever reason), because I know that apart from having leet skills theres also a strong chance theyve earned those skills in the face of putting up with sexist asshats. Triumph through adversity earns more respect than just triumph.

Only time I know that I was specifically beaten by a 'girl' was at a LAN party. A PS3 was supplied and we had a tournament for one of the DBZ games, neither her nor I had ever played it before so we were both a mess at it but in the end she won both rounds and it was fucking awesome. I didn't give a toss 20+ people were behind me watching, the crap her and I were pulling was hilarious. I have zero issue telling the story of my defeat because it was a good match.

Well, I don't mind it at all. I know a few gals' who I play CS with relatively regulary, and We're all on the same skill level. Being killed by a girl doesn't even matter, I wouldn't even know if it was a girl unless they had a nametag with "I'M A GIIIIRRRRLLLLLLLL". I'm 100% sure that I have been dominated countless times by girls without knowing it

same way I take getting beat by anyone: Gritting my teeth hard enough that I start to hear cracking, mentally flagellating myself for losing (I've never been a good loser to say the least) and then I set about attempting to dominate said player.

I could care less. A good player is a good player, regardless of gender. I remember playing BioShock 2's multiplayer (and yes, I like it better than the first...though not for the multiplayer), and there was one girl who kept kicking the crap out of me. And she mocked me every time she did so. I wanted revenge but I never got it, because I could never get the drop on her. If I could have met her in person, I'd ask for tips...and maybe a date.

I guess I think the most important thing is how they conduct themselves in-game, although I can still react with surprise if I find out someone is a woman or a girl. In servers where abuse gets thrown around towards women, I think I'd probably be more surprised to hear someone say they were a female gamer. Luckily, I haven't been on many of those servers for a long time, with good reason.

In the friendlier and more casual servers where somebody's sex or gender doesn't cause someone to bat an eyelid, I suppose I only get as annoyed as I would if I were bested by a male gamer. On some occasions, though, I do tend to be slightly nicer than normal. I have no idea why, and it perplexes me - it's not a date, it's a casual game with strangers. I suppose I try harder not to take the game too seriously. In return, I usually find that the female gamers I've met have generally been less aggressive than their male counterparts, whether it be through chat or by their actions in-game. I'm seeing more and more female gamers on-line, so their presence in a game (unless it has a reputation, shall we say) doesn't surprise me as much as it really, really used to.

I had a female friend in college who was literally the best COD player I've ever seen, and my ex wasn't terrible at zombies mode either. Aaaand there was this one girl in uni who... ehh, whatever, I wouldn't be bothered, is the point I'm making.

How shall I put this?

My girlfriend can OWN YOU ALL in an RTS. CNC, SupCom, Total War, and plenty of others are on her diet of destruction. She makes mince meat of numerous other players, even if they are in reality veteran soldiers. She is GOOOOD at gaming, and that is one reason that I don't feel bad. I'm a great game player myself, but I accept that the sexes are equal when it comes to having skill. Plenty of us on both side kick ass and plenty of us are actually doofuses. IT HAPPENS.

Is this really that much of an issue? I've never had a problem losing to any person, my probelms are losing by a bit and losing to the computer. Guy or Girl, it doesn't matter one you start playing.
