Gender makes no difference to me.
As a sidenote, one of the regulars I game with is female, and she's better than I am at most games.

Unless you're a child, it shouldn't matter. Male or female, it's just another opponent. Girls can be good at games like guys can be bad at it.

It's like if a man can cook a better lasagne than me, I wouldn't invalidate it because he's a man. Daft example I know but hopefully people can see what I'm getting at.

When a girl beats me in a game I respond with all the good grace and dignity that I reserve for male opponents: I swear, throw the controller and mutter obscenities about where I'm going to stick their damn Boltshot/Sniper Rifle/Needler.

Seriously though, I think girls get a lot of undeserved hassle when they play games. On behalf of the coarser, more virginal and neckbearded specimens of my gender, I apologise. But conversely, girls who choose a username like "GrrrrlGamer2hot4uXXX", dress in pink and have "GIRL" as their service tag... that's like walking down the street naked. Yes, you'll get attention, but you probably won't enjoy most of it, and what's more it'll be your own fault.

I react the exact same way, rage quit and go drinking, which would explain why I never become very good at games...

I really couldn't care less...I'm not 12. If anything If I knew I got beat by a girl, I would be happy in the very notion that there are still girls in the gaming community at all....the gaming community as is, is still to much of a sausage fest...bring on the girls! The more that beat me the merrier. xD

The same I feel when getting beat by a boy, a little upset, but wanting to try again and get my revenge. I was in a group that played TF2 where a girl was one of the best players and kicked all our asses.

Having played Halo 4 MP quite a bit recently I can tell you without qualms. Real players are defined by skill. Not there gender. That is all.

Now i play Alot of TF2 over 2000 hours And I use my real name as my online ID (Zoey)
And of course i get the Blah blah blah Your a Fat guy Acting like a girl And i never respond to people when they ask me my Gender But i wanna know how you feel if you get better by a girl gamer and know it's a "Girl" For sure.
And usually When i beat people they try and add me and Kiss my arse F**k sake i know real life girls are scary but jeez :3

Captcha: Which one is yellow?
You've played 2000 hours of TF2 without a mic? Just curious, because you don't mention it, and i could never play that much TF2 without chatting to people.

I wouldn't have made it past my first 20 hours if i wasn't chatting to someone on my team about nothing at all >.<

I've never been hit by ANYONE I have not hit back. Hard.

Also, I will proudly admit to having been beaten up in the boxing ring by a girl. The wonderful thing about boxing is that it's a great equalizer. A girl with great technique can one-hit KO any dude who's head she can reach, and knock the stuffing out of everyone else.

I dont really see the difference, i don't ask people there genders while im playing a game after all. Im usually to busy loosing, thats the advantage of having your computer set up on a bedside cabenet.

I'm guessing people don't even know half the time.
I thought `Phasmal` sounded feminine and I always play as a girl but still get called `he` and `dude` and `man`.
Mostly cause I don't have a microphone anymore because of my laptop's weird sound issues.

But hopefully most people are big enough for it to not matter.
I'm using a name with a female exit (-ia), and yet the vast majority of people correctly assume I'm male. Somehow I'd say it's more a thing where you're considered male until proven otherwise.

OT: I'd react pretty badly to it, and would stubbornly improve myself until I'd be better. Y'know, the exact same thing I'd do when a guy beats me.
Can't think of any applied examples though, as most opponents are faceless usernames. In my WoW days I've raided with quite a few women, but most of them weren't playing DPS classes - and none of them were quite as competitive about it as I was.

Same way I react to being defeated by a guy. Throw a temper tantrum and crywho am I kidding I only have friends enough to play single player.

Being a girl, it's meaningless to me. Although I do have a male friend that gets annoyed whenever I beat him in TF2, but that's more because he's been playing it for about 4 years longer than I have. Plus its usually when I fluke and airblast an arrow back at him or something.. Ahh I enjoy those moments

I'm not great at games, so.. yeah, getting beaten by anyone is likely and meh.

Although if she was "yeah, I'm a girl and I beat you" in a bad way then I would think she's a jerk... but would expect most people would...

Depends entirely on my relationship with the girl and how they handle the victory.

A complete stranger who beats me at anything and doesn't act like a shit head gets no reaction from me other than a brief utterance of disappointment.

A friend who happens to be female will probably get an earful of friendly trash talk during the game and after. This trash talk may very well be gender specific and easily misconstrued as mysogynistic. Rest assured that I don't mean any of it and wouldn't utter a single word if they weren't familiar enough to know when I'm joking.

I wouldn't care, there's no difference between getting killed by a male or female player. My girlfriend can kick my ass on Unreal Tournament.
