Okay this couldn't of came at a weirder time...My friend posted this on facebook:OMFG.. i just saw a pyramid shaped UFO with flashing red and white lights when i was in my hot tub

So me: Dude your high. Go to sleep.

yet some one else comments:
Holy fucking shit, I saw that last night!!!! Me and my friend Sam. And I was driving down refugee road and we both saw it. Exactly what you described. Needless to say we were screaming and i started going 70mph down refugee. Then we saw it again that night. Hovered real low, then kind of went out of sight real quick

...holy shit I though.

Later: my friend: holy shit.. i just read a report.(.At exactly 7:32PM on September 23, 2010, I was traveling northbound on Rt. 33 between Carrol and Canal Winchester (One tenth of a mile before the Hill/Dilely Road Exit), when I spotted the object. The object caught my eye out of the 10′Oclock position (NNW-North Northwest). It was in plain sight maneuvering in an unfixed pattern, about 200′ off the ground. It appeared to be located about 500′ west of the Hill/Diley Rd exit bridge, hovering over an empty field and partially the road.) september 23 is my birthday.. and this location is less than half a mile away from my house

Yeah this is my area. So I think it will be one of their ships will malfunction and the army won't get it in time.

I believe that the governments of the world has already made contact with beings not of this planet, they just refuse to let the general public know because of how stupidly the fear some people act.

We'd be panic-caked but peaceful...I'm pretty sure an alien race would
1. Be intelligent enough to observe before making contact, so they'd be prepared and
2. Have no good reason to really kill us off considering how rare life probably is in the Universe

If there's sentient life out there, the most likely way we'll make contact with it is through radio or some other form of communication, since EM waves travel faster than any space ship. If that's not exciting enough for you, I've long thought that we might find a probe of some sort fly by our planet at some point; mabye it's here already and it's cloaked.

I don't like either the traditional extermination or the peaceful contact scenario; there's nothing on our world worth conquering that isn't on lifeless planets, and and intersteller race probably won't want to trade with planet-bound primitives - they might not even view us as sentient. I think the reason these two scenarios are so popular is that it gives our planet and our race significance in the greater scheme of things.i.e.

Not while mars has all the iron and the giants have all the He-3, we're not.

The only interest a race capable of traveling to our planet would have in us would be scientific, and that, coupled the the lack of need for life support/cryogenics/various other tech livings beings would need, is why a probe is the mostly likely alien ship to find.

Do you also have coat-hangers hanging from your ceiling to deflect the satellites? XD
If you're referring to me of course not, that's just preposterous. The coat-hangers are outside, how are you going to deflect the satellites if you're only defense is inside?

See, proof! Random people on the internet saying they saw a dealie in the sky! A dealie! In the sky!

They'll be all like "Yo, what's happenin' with you guys?"
And we'll be like "Eh, not much, what's happenin' with you guys?"
Then they'll be like "Eh, not much as well"
And then we'll be like "Oh yeah, that's cool"

It'll probably be a sort of Branwell Probe that contains all of their knowledge and culture. So IRL first contact would more likely be with an AI representing the aliens than the aliens themselves.
I believe something similar to this will occur.

If a race of sentient beings has the ability of interstellar/intergalactic travel, then wouldn't it be logical to assume that they also have a device that contains all essential information of their species and culture/s and some sort of information translator (or something along those lines) that will give us (or another species if they happen to find them first) the ability the understand their information.

In conclusion, I'm inclined to believe that we'll encounter some sort of probe, or it'll encounter us, before we meet them face to face. I'm also inclined to believe that our relationship will be a peaceful one.

If scientists are to be believed, the universe is huge. And it's expanding. So, even if there is only a one in a million chance of a planet having life, that still leaves billions of inhabited planets out there. Odds are, eventually, aliens will happen by our planet. Maybe they have, who knows. Maybe they flew by, looked at our world, found us boring, and went on their merry way. But what do you believe our first contact with aliens will be like? Do you think that they'll want to abduct and study us? Exterminate us? Trade with us?
Personally, I believe that it will be a peaceful first contact. Maybe an alien ship will appear over a major city and attempt to communicate with us. What do you believe will happen?
PS: Conspiracy theorists, please don't post any crackpot ideas on this thread. I want to hear what you believe WILL happen, not what you believe MIGHT have happened.
I think that we will all live in computers before first contact, so it would seem like WE would be the "Advanced Extraterrestrial Race" seem in the movies.

Maybe finding another race will remind us of our fleshy roots in organic life at that point.

I find the notion that aliens are super advanced silly, maybe they are just ike our natives?

OT: I figure it would be rather chaotic, as a mix of people running for the hills, people running for the guns, and people running for a alien hug would rather.. weird out, day to day society.

I think that first contact will be very not good. Think about past events where supposedly more advanced, more intelligent beings met with the native inhabitants of a distant exotic land.

Well first of all, I don't really think it will be anything like in films or games. Sure, I believe there is definitely life on other planets, but I don't believe they all fly around in saucers and ships.

Of course the way life on other planets evolves depends on the plant itself. Maybe the aliens will be similar to humans, chances are they will be different. I don't really take to the idea of them all being a super technologically advanced race. They could be at any progress in science, whether it be behind our discoveries or not.

Of course if aliens do visit our planet they are more technologically advanced than we are. But there could also be radio contact or something, message in a bottle maybe? Throw it hard enough it might reach somewhere, but then we will be sat waiting for hundreds on millennia for a reply...

I do remember when in WW2 the US came over to some islands in the pacific to set up shop for some bombing of Japan and the natives were given cans of beans and corn for their troubles. The natives thought they were gods, developed a religion around it, built model planes in hope that the aircrafts would return and bring more canned food.

I sure hope that if a first encounter was based off previous Earth encounters it was based off this one!
Are you sure it already hasn't? Did I just blow your mind, or what?

Probably, not...

my guess is the first time we run into aliens they wont be what we consider intelligent life, I mean if life is an anomaly in our universe than human intelligence is truly strange, like one in a million chance a planet can sustain life, then one in a million species of creatures are what we call intelligent
