How do you think World War III will pan out? (Let's be honest, there is going to be one. EDIT:But probably not in our life-time is what I meant guys.)
What do you think will spark it to begin? When do you think it will begin? Who will win? What will happen and etc?

EDIT:Since this thread has been necro'd discuss the possibility of World War III! Knock yourselves out Escapist.

Germany'll start it. Or at least help start it, or join up with the country who started it.
There can be no other way.

America will sit back and lol-at-us.
Britain may say 'Screw it. We lost all our money with the last 2' and not do anything.
Russia will scream, and draw out Natascha.

I personally think that the war in iraq will escalate and some other countries will join in, cause of the whole oil shortage problem, other countries will want in eventually, Russia wont join though, they're good for oil.

america will have a civil war (usa, not the continents)
the whole near and far east will once again become a series of warring states, isreal, pakistan and india being notable powers (all having nuclear weapons)
there will be no clear sides as such, a terrible maddness and blood lust will grip the vast mound of humanity in all the megacities of the world and people, human beings will stop being human and become animals, beasts of filth and mindless destruction.
the worst will occur with those that seek a semblence of order in the maddness, those who in their ordered insanity will hunt and kill and commit genocide for the maddest of reasons.
the whole world will be at war, not against any army, not for any ideal. just at war, in a terrible hunger for torment and pain. and it will go on and on for years, whole histories and peoples put to the sword.

then, after the insanity has been sated, the survivors will gather round and say 'there is peace, it is over' and slowly, they will die and a new generation fresh from the horrors will be born, the terrible maddness still vivid in their imaginations. then they will die, and the next generation will know peace and forget, and their sons and daughters, a hundred years from now, two hundred years from now, will find some fresh cause, unearth some ancient reasons and dive into this maddness, as thier children will do, and so on and so forth and so on.

if anything is called WWIII it would probably be something between Iran and Israel with other countries pulled into the mix but since the US is allied with Israel they would win with superior technology and training

Iran would use long range missiles first with a good degree of success but would shortly be destroyed by either air assaults or by patriots missile defense systems. Israel would then use their F-35's to support the US F-22's on bombing runs to cripple Iran and its allies. then the US and Israel would send in spec ops to destroy comms and hard points fallowed by massive marines to clean up with the army behind to secure supplies and fight off rebel groups. that's generally how the US tactics go: bomb, weaken with spec-ops, marines mop up, army secures the rest.

My money's on India and China going to war. Having two geopolitical and economic rivals with a messy history bordering each other isn't a recipe for success. And they have been known to come to blows in the past. While I don't imagine other countries joining in the conflict in a 'traditional' sense, we'd probably see a very rapid cold war (not the Cold War) situation, with puppet states, sponsor states and massive economic combat for limited resources. Should be a bloody century (just like all the others).

Which is why there wont be one. WW3 wont happen because all the superpowers are now allies, and if one threatens another, the UN will condemn the nation that was first to threaten, thus turning the entire nuclear stockpile of every superpower on earth towards that country, which would stop anyone from attacking.
WW3 wont happen because politicians are smart enough to know that a World War now would result in M.A.D. Mutually Assured Destruction. The death of everyone on both sides, and the end of both nations.

People both soldiers and civilians will die on all sides and nothing will truly be won however the side that loses the least amount of people and infrastructure will be declared the victor and they will write the history books which will tell about how righteous and glorious they were in their triumph

War is a pointless thing that ultimately brings nothing good, so I ask why bother? All it does it cause pain and sorrow all around... Can't we all just get along? /bleeding heart liberal.
