How do you want HL3 to be announced?

I know I know I doubt Half-Life 3 really exists either, but at this point this game has so much anticipation how would you want Valve to handle the announcement if it were to come out?

I would want Valve to hold a surprise press conference during E3. People show up to a dark auditorium, where the only thing there is a big screen with a crowbar on it. 10 min. later a big 3 fades in beside the crow-bar. That's it, no sound, no release date, just a crow-bar and a 3. I did wont to incorporate Gabe riding in on a white horse across the stage, but that seemed to ruin the mood.

First, there'll be a rumor online about Valves' secret "Lambda office". No one really knows what goes on in there.

One day all the employees in the office mysteriously vanish. Gabe Newell offers no comment. Marc Laidlaw drops a hint that a certain "threat must be contained".

The FBI takes a look at Valves' investment records and finds evidence of extensive real-world portal testing. Gabe Newell is detained, saying only "I wanted to create the most immersive experience possible for Half Life 3".

Two days later, our new alien overlords arrive.

There is only one way Half-Life 3 could be announced properly:

Now.
My thoughts exactly when I read the thread title. Might as well just announce the damn thing and get it overwith. Then again, maybe they want to avoid getting everyone's hopes up in the case the game goes through development hell (which I don't see ever happening).

I've completely forgotten the story and could care less if Valve ever bothers releasing this.

I wouldn't want it to be announced at all, I'd want them to just sneak it onto the steam store's front page under the featured games tab.

Ninja'd :(

Yeah they should just mention it casually while doing an interview for dota or something as if its nothing, would be pretty funny. There's no point hyping it up any more because its never going to live up to the expectations at this point xD

Some type of game like an internet scavenger hunt or like the thing they did on steam with the potato sack (playing games to get it released faster?)

After this long of a wait i think a small game would help re leave the stress... on second though, it might piss people off lol either way im game ;)

This, don't even advertise it on the release day, just have like a few retail stores scattered around that have one game box with the lambda logo and a 3 on it tucked somewhere in the shop window, then wait for someone to notice and post it on the internet. Then continue to wait as the usual half life 3 rumour dance begins once again, with half the fans saying "yes it finally here" and the others saying "we're being trolled again". Then at the very high of the rumour chatter just update steam and bam full page store cover 'Half Life 3 Available Now!'

With gigantic zeppelins in every major population centre, and a Valve employee with a megaphone in each one (throwing out discs attached to balloons). It's not like they couldn't afford it after all the money they've earned from steam.

I would prefer it was never announced.

I would want it to be secretly released on Steam and be only accessed through some roundabout method involving references from previous games plus other valve games maybe. Then I would want everyone at Valve to continue the idea that HL3 has still not been released all the while, the chosen few who were mad enough to believe that it had been released and followed the set of clues hidden in different games have already played and beaten HL3.

Of course the assumption here is that the game will be so mindblowingly amazing it would be comparable to looking at the face of God or spreading Branston pickle onto No More Heroes.

Then after Valve has logged a certain number of people as having played and beaten HL3 I would want them to once again stop anyone from being able to access the game. This would be so that when the few people who had played it go to various Internet forums professing that they had played the game, Valve can continue to claim that the game is in fact not released since if those who gained access try to tell others how to do it, the same method would no longer work.

Eventually those who would claim that HL3 has been released are branded as mad people and the vast majority of the internet would probably forget about them. Then as Valve releases other games I want another set of hints to be tucked away just as before and have then continue this process indefinitely.

I would want all this to happen because I think it'd be pretty funny. :3

Another vote for "secretly". Tell me, what better way to drive up hype for a game, especially one as waited for as this, than basically have the entire internet go crazy going "No way is this real", "It came just came out!", "Wasn't that just a prank", "This has got to be a trick", "No lie!" ?
I was thinking maybe doing another "Orange box" style deal but having half life episode 3 in it with no indication whatsoever, even on the game cover. Just let the player stumble upon it when he runs the game.

This deserves to be on a completely different thread, but let me handle this one.

Half Life 3 is the rumored sequel to the hit games Half life, Half life 2, and half life 2 Episodes 1 and 2. It is currently released and word of it's existence has been spread through a combination of forums, chat rooms, and fairy tales. The first games were met with such praise that the hype for the third has already been risen to the point where if God himself will descend from heaven with the game on a platter made of Diamonds people will be left feeling betrayed. If the game exists, it had been in production for over 5 years, and will probably complete the Half Life game series. If you look around the internet, multiple people will probably have done rumor threads of it on multiple forums. Play the first games. Those will show you how unbelievably awesome the series is.

On Topic.
I would like Valve to take the sneaky approach. In this order:

1. Put on steam
2. Take off steam
3. Monitor World Wide forum posts about it's existence
4. Put back on steam
5. Watch people mod the valve offices due to the glory which is Half Life 3

I want it to be added to everyone's Steam account at once. No fuss, no announcements, it's just there.

Watch everyone lose their shit.
