At E3 at the end of the Valve conference after Gabe goes on about some silly incorporating steam into things and boring hardware talk at the end just say "Oh, yeah by the way Half-Life 3 this September." then just walks off.

They actually asked me to announce it. So I'm announcing it. It's coming out in Octobre.
You clever person you. Also, I figure from your name that you're either a Swedish oceanographer or enjoy Dark Tower (like me).

As for how I'd want them to go about it, if there's some sort of cafe or something in E3 (or super close by) they should sneak a USB into a sandvich. Whichever member of the gaming press orders and gets that particular sandwich (and hopefully doesn't accidentally eat the USB) plugs it in to find a mysterious string of binary in a document. The binary translates to a message from Glados, professing "the last safe place for the coming storm" before giving out GPS coordinates. Should one follow the coordinates, they'll find themselves at some sort of abandoned warehouse or something with a perfectly recreated safe-room inside. AFter searching around in there (possibly with some assistance form cryptic clues on the writing on the walls as to where it's hidden) whoever's in there finds a recreation of one of the discs from ricochet. Should they wear it like a hat, special sensors will be activated that play a ten hour loop of the three's company theme (keep in mind that it will only play if worn continually by an awake person, and if it's taken off it will reset). After the gaming world has coordinated itself to play the loop all the way through (Valve will continually deny any involvement, and hence won't offer any help or hints) and after the media storm that Valve knows that three exists, a small message from G-Man will play, something like "Rise again, Mr Freeman", then having the release date play out in morse-code (keeping in mind that they'll only have one chance to take it down before it resets) before cutting out to static.

Here's how it must be announced: The post-credits scene of Valve's next game shows Gordon Freeman and a "Coming Soon"
But Counter-Strike is pure multiplayer...I don't think Global Offensive is going to HAVE a credits screen.
Alright, their next game with a campaign, then.

First, there'll be a rumor online about Valves' secret "Lambda office". No one really knows what goes on in there.

One day all the employees in the office mysteriously vanish. Gabe Newell offers no comment. Marc Laidlaw drops a hint that a certain "threat must be contained".

The FBI takes a look at Valves' investment records and finds evidence of extensive real-world portal testing. Gabe Newell is detained, saying only "I wanted to create the most immersive experience possible for Half Life 3".

Two days later, our new alien overlords arrive.
Is that before or after Valve HQ is flooded with a deadly Neurotoxin because the AI used to develop HL:Ep 3 developed sentience during the development period but also went insane due to the continually postponed release dates?

I want it to be at the end of a big Valve presentation at some big gaming event like E3. Right as Gabe is about to walk off stage, he turns back around to the audience and goes;

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Half Life 3 is available for purchase right now. No seriously, look at Steam or go to Gamestop, it's there waiting for you. Have a nice day."

Imagine it was released tomorrow.

NO announcements.

You open up steam and BAM. Buy it.

lol. I don't.

I've accepted HL3 to be a myth and treat Resistance 3 as its continuation.

I should really get around to play that game.

The April Fools joke in Game Informer was quite cruel. But I suppose for all the typical gaming publications to have a lengthy cover story would be acceptable. That and a party in every major city in the name of the One Free Man. And an announcement that the damn thing will be free. That would make my day.

With the wait we have had I better have it announced to me with a blowjob from a really hot woman who delivers me a hand written letter from Gabe before she starts.

Short of that I would really like a really awesome worldwide build-up of epic proportions.

The way I want Half Life 3 to be announced would be.

"Half Life 3 now available for download on Steam, click here to give us money and play it NOW"

EDIT: Why am I getting a Captcha on EVERY post today?

As a teaser trailer unlocked in one of their video games. Perhaps in a Portal 2 DLC (since its tied in the same universe) That would give us something to do and quit crying you babies it will be up on youtube within the day.

All I really want is for HL3 to be out before the Black Mesa Source mod comes out. I mean seriously, if that comes out first.

http://www.blackmesasource.com/

or a flash mob of combine soldiers in the middle of time square would be cool... even if I couldn't be there.

I don't want it to be announced at all. I just want it released, like with no promotion, no marketing, no trailers, nothing. Just put it out there, don't even acknowledge its existence.

Wow, I really did not expect this many answers. Secretly seems to be the most favored, but I feel like having G-man's voice just appear would make it just that much more awesome.

"Rise and shine Mister Freeman.Rise and Shine. Not that i wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job but it has been f*cking 5 years already"

On a side note, i want it to come with that Black Mesa Source mod that was supposed to come at 2009.
