Do you guys know how the Wii manages online purchases?

[HEADING=2]IT'S ALL ON YOUR Wii.[/HEADING]

Your Wii goes, you have to buy everything AGAIN. Full price. You can't store purchase data on anything. There's no account.

I'm hesitant to buy anything off of the VC now. I never had an NES/SNES/N64, so these games are very tempting to me.

Because they have a massive fanboy market who try to shoot down anything bad said about it? And a userbase that doesn't understand that sort of stuff.

Yeah, you're right, there's no sense buying any other games. Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Ocarina of Time...all shit.

OT: Yeah, virtual console sucks. In all honesty you can get an N64 for dirt cheap. Might as well buy one for $50 and buy some games off ebay or something.
Same goes for SNES/NES. They sell these consoles called Retro Duo's now that you can put both Snes or NES cartridges in, essentially making it two systems in one.

Well, let's just be happy that the thing hardly ever breaks. ;)

Though it is a bit disconcerting to know that your games go if the Wii goes.

And yet it still has nothing on the Super Genintari. :D

Lord knows what I would commit to get my hands on that thing...

Sorry for the double post.
My pride, it is scarred...

Nintedo should have a thing where you register your wii serial number/friend code so they know your games. Then you can redeem them when you get a new wii. But of course nintendo is good at making games, not game by products.

Because there's a chance you might lose the games you purchased electronically if your console would happen to die on you?

Seems a bit strange to me, as your console is likely to survive until long after you've gotten sick of the games. And if you're really worried, you can always buy physical copies of the games.

Let's take my PS2 for example, it died about 2 years ago. I got it in about 2002. If the PS2 had been download-based, then that's 6 years worth of downloads gone.
Chances are that the Wii won't break down on you like that, but on the off chance that something does happen to it (It gets dropped, some spills a drink on it and the liquid gets into the system itself) then I would hate to pay for things which I've already legally brought.

Wii in shit online proposition shock!

Seriously, where have you been for the last three and a half years? Under a rock? On Mars?

Not having a Wii and wireless internet?

The friend codes sucked. But I didn't hear about this...ever.

I prefer physical copies of the games myself.

Consoles old enough to be on the VC are actually less than a new 360 game in a shop I go to. The games themselves are ridiculously cheap. It would cost me £29 to be able to play Goldeneye.

I think you mean the Super Genintari. Yours sounds too much like Super Genitals.

I suppose I do.

Unless you know of another system capable of playing NES, SNES, Atari, and Genesis games, that is.

Thank you for the correction nonetheless.

I'm not sure if it does anything, but if you link a Nintendo account to you Wii's shop channel, it shows that you own the game on the Nintendo site...but what ever.

I don't know where you got this idea from. I'm part of the Nintendo VIP (it's more public than it sounds) and my account on there stores all my purchases. Your Wii will always keep track of your purchases, but if you sign in with a VIP account, it'll track your purchases online at all.

Although why you wouldn't sign in with your VIP account is a mystery to me since you can cash stars in for Wii Points.
