I don't know where you got this idea from. I'm part of the Nintendo VIP (it's more public than it sounds) and my account on there stores all my purchases. Your Wii will always keep track of your purchases, but if you sign in with a VIP account, it'll track your purchases online at all.

Although why you wouldn't sign in with your VIP account is a mystery to me since you can cash stars in for Wii Points.
They could FUCKING MENTION this shit?! And, sorry for the rage, how do you sign in on the Wii?

Actually, you download and store stuff on your Hard Drive. Considering that you can buy games designed for the Wii that are "new" in the sense that they have added new games constantly, they would have had to have planned it out for the last 20 years of business to have everything on the Wii already.

Wii in shit online proposition shock!

Seriously, where have you been for the last three and a half years? Under a rock? On Mars?
Not having a Wii and wireless internet?

The friend codes sucked. But I didn't hear about this...ever.
This complaint was all the rage when the Wii was new. There are actually horribly clunky ways to register your purchases with a Club Nintendo account and get Nintendo to set things up so you can get them back, but it's nowhere near as good as simply linking them to your Gamertag or PSN ID and being able to redownload them as many times as you need (with the restriction, at least on the Xbox, that any consoles other than the first one they are downloaded to will have to be signed in online with that gamertag in order to use that content).

I believe they mention it when you try to sign in on the Wii. I know I definitely read it somewhere. Can't remember how you sign in, I haven't touched my Wii since Smash Bros Brawl came out, which was 2 years ago, purely because Nintendo seems to hate their gamer fanbase.

They sell these consoles called Retro Duo's now that you can put both Snes or NES cartridges in, essentially making it two systems in one.
And yet it still has nothing on the Super Genintari. :D

Lord knows what I would commit to get my hands on that thing...

Sorry for the double post.
My pride, it is scarred...
If that thing works, I'd murder several small children and beat hookers to death for DAYS to get one. I might even off grand-mama.

It woiks awlroight.

This reminds me. I once read that the Nintendo Wii could play any Nintendo game. From an early picture I assumed the slot on the front was for Game Boy games. I didn't know about the VC at that time.

Nintendo does actually keep track of what you download and if your Wii would break (something it highly probably won't) you can let them transfer it to your new one. So this isn't really a problem.

I'm certain someone has always said this, but I'm too lazy to check. Steam does the exact same thing. You lose your account, you lose your games. Doesn't stop people from using it

I don't think it works like you describe, because I've transfered several VC titles to SD cards and yet when I go to the Shop Channel to browse VC console titles it still knows I've already downloaded those ones.

Well, let's just be happy that the thing hardly ever breaks. ;)
Is that because you hardly ever use it?
Nah, I'm just joking.
However, Nintendo's behaviour is one of the reasons I don't own a Wii.

Thats the honest reason you don't have a wii :p I could think of a couple better reasons.

Nintendo likely just didn't think that through and just wanted to get an online store out their quickly to compete with Microsoft and Sony.

Because there's a chance you might lose the games you purchased electronically if your console would happen to die on you?

Seems a bit strange to me, as your console is likely to survive until long after you've gotten sick of the games. And if you're really worried, you can always buy physical copies of the games.
Yea, Wiis aren't known for failing often. Also, you can store games on an SD Card.

Once I realized that most of my favorite old games were on the SNES, I ended up paying the $40 bucks for a used one and another $25 for a bunch of games at a local used games store. I have learned that dealing with some online marketplaces is rarely worth the hassle (especially the Virtual Console).

Do you guys know how the Wii manages online purchases?

[HEADING=2]IT'S ALL ON YOUR Wii.[/HEADING]

Your Wii goes, you have to buy everything AGAIN. Full price. You can't store purchase data on anything. There's no account.

I'm hesitant to buy anything off of the VC now. I never had an NES/SNES/N64, so these games are very tempting to me.
There's got to be a hack for getting this stuff, then. If it's all pre-loaded.
