You don't get perfect attendance for not showing up anyway, even with an excuse. Also, he's probably lying about his parents saying that.

I doubt a one or two time occurrence will be harmful. I can't see doing it for my kids, but unless this is a repeated thing, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I'd probably just go to school though.

When I saw the thread, I thought you might be asking something like "How do babies happen?"
I was worried.

I did that kind of thing all the time, in a less premeditated way admitadly. For instance, I picked up HL2 on my lunch break and the urge to play it(that game was a big deal)was just too much for me...make it a half day, why not?

Other times, when there were(uneducational)field trips that I wasn't going on, I would just say "Nothing is gonna be happening today...can I stay home?". The answer was always "yes"...they trusted me. One time my class went to Disneyland in Paris and I didn't want to hassle my parents about it...they had no money for such things, and managed to get the whole week off.

People did this in my school when Kingdom Hearts came out. It's not something to be envious of. Do you really want parents that think your playing Halo a couple days before your friends is more important than getting an education? Trust me, I love games as much as most anymore, actually, probably more than most anybody, but that's not good parenting.

I'm skipping class for the rest of this week in order to play Halo Reach. I go to college, so my parents won't know, or care, and none of my professors have mandatory attendance, so it won't hurt my grades in the least.
Still though you may be limiting yourself in certain criteria. I wouldn't handicap myself even if I were to get Halo Reach.

I think the sad part is that he'll beat the campaign, and still have enough time to go to sleep and wake up the next morning.

I've heard the campaign is a lot longer this time.

My folks would never really allow me to do that and I wouldn't allow my kids to do it, though I can see the point. Missing a single day isn't going to cost you big in the long run, yes it is a bit of a pain in the ass to see people getting away with it, but I can understand missing ONE day. I even know a few people who ditched school to play Modern Warfare 2.

Missing a day of school is not a big deal.

Playing video-games is not a big deal.

Therefore, I don't care?

I'm in college, if I miss class I'm just hurting myself. Seriously, if you don't show up to class no one gives a fuck.

Well, some kids get to play Halo all night, others (me) work last minute perfection of essays.

My parents would've never let me do that on a school night. Maybe on, like, Friday or Saturday night, but never any other night, during school.
And I wouldn't want to anyways. Because then you have to play catch-up, which is always a pain in the ass.

-shrug- Well that's really neato of his parents I guess. So long as it doesn't happen too much. Granted... I wouldn't be able to do that... Strict parents combined with AP classes. Classes I might add that I'm already not doing all that good in.
