Nothing awesome about this. The child now has more power than the parents. That's bullshit! In my day, I would get a beating for staying up past 12. Gabe, do the right thing and beat this kid senseless. Then beat his parents. Lord knows they didn't get it when they were kids.

I had a Karate tournament on a wednesday night once. It didn't finish until 11pm and I got home about 2am. My parents lety me stay home and no-one ever thought bad about it.

Is this issue really about taking a day off, or the fact that it's rediculous only because it's a video game?

And is it the video game that's making him stay home, or the stated fact that he's going to the midnight event, like I went to a karate event?

Personally I just think the stigmas about video games are rearing their heads and that's the only reason this is a big deal.

I once pretended to be sick at school to go home early and play Super Metroid for the SNES (yes.. it was that long ago). I was able to fool my teacher...but not my mom, thus I was forbidden from playing video games for a whole month! that friend of yours has AWESOME parents LOL. xD

srsly, one day aint that big of a deal.

wow alot of people are bitching about how his parents are bad for letting him do this. maybe this is a one time thing, or maybe this is a reward of some kinds. srsly if this kid is in high school, it doesnt rly matter. High school was fucking easy, i rarely stayed home. I never complained about being sick or what not, so when there was something big, like the wow expansion or seeing iron man 2 with my friends at the midnight premeire, my parents trusted me enough and allowed me to stay home. most of you bitching bout it had parents who were rly strict or rewarded you in other ways.

This one kid in my class isn't coming to school tomorrow so he can play halo reach. He told me that he was going to the midnight release and his parents said he would be too tired to go to school afterward so they're going to lie about him being sick so he'll get perfect attendance while he's skipping class.I think his family is probably retarded.Or just really awesome.
I think he's retarded for wanting to buy Halo Reach
what kind of school gives you perfect attendance if you miss a day for any reason?
that's not perfect, I think the school is retarded for that

Makes sense. But I feel like, (to a parent at least) there is no viable argument to stay home. And you say he whined? If he whined he needs an even bigger beating.

And yes, when you said that "being able to formulate a coherent argument is much more important to life than knowing what the hell the ribosomes do in a cell" I wholeheartedly agreed. What grade is this kid in, however? Grade 6? Fine. Grade 10, 11, or 12? Sometimes those really unnecessary facts come in handy when the totally useless tests that test you about stuff you'll never do in life, even if you go into that line of business, which doesn't really make sense, because no one needed to learn that...
What was I saying? Anyways, depending on what point in your life, you may need those facts more then Halo: Reach.

... But Halo Reach above science ANY day.

Lucky me, I'm at university, and don't have any classes tomorrow.

It happens all the time down here where I live. It's common and even I've done it once or twice.
