How easy is it for you to actually form friendships on sites like The Escapist or other forums? I'm not talking about just clicking "Add To Friends" and never talk to them, I mean people you talk to online regularly. What does it take to get someone into your circle of contacts?

For me it's pretty simple. If you have similar interests to me and you're interesting to talk to one on one, you're good with me. It also helps if I know who you are to an extent already by seeing you on the forums posting.

I've been around the escapist for ages and have only really made one proper friend.

I have been able to make other friends at other sites though. I guess I'm just not that talkative with individual members.

This.

Although I would never call anyone "wrong" for doing so, personally, I can't consider myself FRIENDS with someone I've never met in person.

I've made one friend on the forum, through talking about Norwegian cuisine and seal-clubbing.

I guess it's not very easy for me. Or perhaps it's just that I normally don't endavour to make actual friends through forums. *shrug*

I've made quite a few good friends on The Escapist, some who live by me, some I'll be meeting soon. We talk ever day via here, FB, or phone.

I'm only a regular on one other forum and have made amazing friends on their from the past 7 years I've been a member.

So yea, I'd say I make friends very easily, but it's never me who starts the talking/friendship, as I cannot stand making an effort for someone who cannot be bothered, but will always make the effort back.

I don't. I prefer the term "like-minded colleagues." If anyone wants to get closer than just point/counterpoint/LOL banter, then I'm idling on Facebook 18 hours a day :p

I don't tend to, considering that my viewpoint tends to be on the side of the bad guys.

If you don't get the sarcasm, shush

I usually can't be bothered to start any friendships, if people like me enough to contact me or something then I'll probably "friend" them but I personally don't take the initiative.

I guess I make them easy if I'm quite known.
Other then that its usually people who agree with my post of something.

About as easily as I do offline. In other words, I can't.

I'm generally friendly with everyone though.

On forums not so much since it´s not really mano a mano, not really personal ya know, I mean would LIKE to get to know people from `round thes parts (hint hint) but something never really happens.

On mmo´s, yes, after questing for a few hours bonds are build.

Not many, there's really no way to just chit chat on forums. I kinda just dump my 2 cents into a topic, and read everyone's opinion.

I find it quite difficult because I don't really have the time to properly "invest" in friends. That and I have a low threshold (and this is less a problem on The Escapist) for idiots and time-wasters. Don't get me wrong, I am here like I am in person, friendly, light-hearted and a bit detached but to quote my personal idol Henry Rollins, "I don't have time for 'Hi, so ummm what are you doing?"
That and I really prefer face to face conversations as I like to read people's faces and judge where the conversation is going.
