As a book, I love the Hobbit and have read it several times over, while I've never gotten on with the LOTR books (however it's been a few years since I've tried to read them). I think the reason I love it is due to it's simplicity, a lot less is going on as they are the entire story is focused around their one quest, and there aren't too many characters.
Which is why I don't understand how Mr. Jackson has made it a two-parter, when it's a shorter book! (33 pages shorter than Fellowship of the Ring, I just checked in my box set of Hobbit and the three LOTR books)
Never-the-less excited though, two films is better than a three-hour-epic, as I tend to fall asleep (King-Kong, Return of the King have never been finished due to this). Combined with loving The Hobbit more than LOTR means I am psyched for it.
