As a book, I love the Hobbit and have read it several times over, while I've never gotten on with the LOTR books (however it's been a few years since I've tried to read them). I think the reason I love it is due to it's simplicity, a lot less is going on as they are the entire story is focused around their one quest, and there aren't too many characters.

Which is why I don't understand how Mr. Jackson has made it a two-parter, when it's a shorter book! (33 pages shorter than Fellowship of the Ring, I just checked in my box set of Hobbit and the three LOTR books)

Never-the-less excited though, two films is better than a three-hour-epic, as I tend to fall asleep (King-Kong, Return of the King have never been finished due to this). Combined with loving The Hobbit more than LOTR means I am psyched for it.

I am. Though mainly because Guillermo del Toro is on the writing team, and in my books that spells out something great.

So while I probably wont catch it in theaters, I'd definitely give it a shot.

I am a huge fan of the books and movies, but am really quite wary of the three movie format.

I fear that the inclusion of so much of the supplemental lore is going to kill the pacing of what should be a quick, tight prequel to LotR, and not an epic, rambling story in equal length.

Extremely excited. I loved what Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings, and I'm curious to see how he's expanding The Hobbit.

Clearly, he's going to go more in-depth into Gandalf's disappearance to check out rumors of the Necromancer (implied but off-screen in the books). Still, fingers crossed for Silmarillion in-references.

So, from what I've heard, PJ's trying to add foreshadowing references about LotR into his new attept? Does this clown even know that the Hobbit was written in a stand alone universe?
Did you forget that Tolkien already retconned the Hobbit into foreshadowing LotR? And that later editions of the Hobbit actually incorporated those retcons?

More excited than I ever get with movies. I like Lord of the Rings, and I actually liked The Hobbit's book, where the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was painful to read through.

While I am looking forward to it but I'm not exactly over the moon for it. I think it's because now that I seen the LotR triliogy I know what to expect out of it than being something new and exciting for me.

Don't worry I will definitely be watching it for sure since that gonna be a film I will watched with my bro for our usual cinema get together when he's back home for Xmas.
(Before you asked, I haven't read the book but my bro has be chances are he forgot what happen in it.)

I'm so excited I might even get my fat ass over to the theater when it comes out...

Yeah, it's on that level

Not even slightly. Tolkein is a massively overrated writer, and seems even more boring now that just about every other fantasy world looks exactly the same as Middle Earth. I really have no interest.

Honestly, I'm not even a little excited for it.
Which probably means I'm going to enjoy it a lot.

I know Peter Jackson's movies are always good but I just can't really get hyped for them

I'm not the biggest Lord of the Rings but I would pay to see it. So yeah, I guess I'm looking forward to it.

Not very, tbh. I enjoyed LotR and all that but I've no wish to see them more than twice. And the fact that PJ is making this into a trilogy, when the source material is rather short just screams of "Did not get the point."

Sort of excited. I mean, it'll probably be the best if not one of the best movied to be released in the last few years (based on my opinion on LOTR) and this is shaping up to be most enjoyable.

I'm quite looking forward to it.

I wasn't that excited until I seen the latest trailer and creamed myself with glee. My only concern is about how well Jackson will spread the book (and appendixes from LOTR) over 3 movies.

I am definitely very excited for this. However, I am a bit hesitant as to the 'need' for three movies. Two seemed legitimate enough to FULLY cover all the source material. Three movies seems very much like a cash grab.

Same here. Two movies actually made a bit of sense, but three movies is stretching it a bit too far. Oh, well. I'll be super excited for the first movie, and cautiously optimistic for the other two.

I personally can't wait to see Gandalf, Saruman, Radaghast, Galadriel, Elrond, and possibly, maybe, Glorfindel (I can wish, right?) enter Dol Guldur to kick the Necromancer's butt. Probably not going to be in this film, but probably in one of the others.

I'm willing to bet that it will definitely be in the second or third movie. I'm interested to see how it will be fit in. If I remember correctly, Gandalf mentioned the attack on Dol Guldur around the climax of the book so where it fits in chronologically with the rest of the events eludes me.

It's hard to get excited about going to see the one third of something. Maybe I'll wait till they all come out on Blueray and watch them for the first time back to back.

I've had an idea floating in my head for a while now. What if a studio made a movie into several parts like the Hobbit but then released all the parts into theatres together at the same time. People could see them back to back, or see the first one one day and the second the day after, or the week after if they wanted.
Releasing all the "parts" six months from each other seems stupid and ruins the flow.
