I personally like the Blackadder approach.

Heaven is for people who like sitting quietly, choir practice and being pious and such.

Hell is more for people who like breaking rules, being bad, and generally approve of the more gittish side of huma behaviour. And hey, who doesn't like being a git once in a while?

Which heaven and hell are you refering to?

If it is the Pasterfarian hell then it is similar to their heaven. If it is the Christian hell, then it varies from person to person.

Voted the worst town in the UK, even beating Slough. The letters should be enough of a give away.

Although Manchester's estates do give it a run for their money.

For Limbo, Milton Keynes.

For Purgatory, London.

Okay I'm not a Vietnam vet, but I wanted to use that line.

While share no religious affiliation, therefore do not have a religious based view on a "heaven" or "hell", I have thought about what a hell would be like if it exists. What I have in my mind is pretty much the place as in the movie Little Nicky. Big horny birds, dudes with boobs on their heads, pineapples up Hitler's ass, a sasquatch type thing, and Rodney Dangerfield.

Hopefully when I get there though I'll be on the devil's good side and get a room in his castle with the walls lined with bad ass band posters like Peter and John did in that movie.

EDIT: As a little additional stuff I'll comment briefly on my view of a "heaven". It's a vast, empty, white world where anything you command appears in front of you. Example: you command a Playstation 5 with a copy of Call of Duty 8: Future Warfare (sad as it is, I can see it existing) and it appears in front of you.

That is all.
Can I be your roommate in hell? \m/

Weeeeeeeellll.
According to christianity you go to hell if you dont believe in God.
I fully respect the religion but they make it sound WAAAAAY to much like propagenda for me to take it seriusly.
This is also kind of the reason i'm an atheist.Too much propagenda.

Also i think protestants need more credit. They make more sense.

While I don't believe in Hell, I will play your game.

Hell, as depicted in the Bible, is fire, nothing else. Satan is trapped there just like everybody else. No circles, no rulers, just fire.
Yeah, this.

It's pretty frustrating when people say things like: Go to heaven for the weather but hell for the company.

Alright; if there were a hell I don't see why Satan would punish us in it. If Satan hates god then shouldn't he be super stoaked about all the terrible things we do? If anything he would reward us.
Not how hell works.
Care to actually expound on the Not how hell works" ?
I mean you're saying it as if it is some kind of fact that you know. And I'm honestly curious what you think is the exact way hell works. I mean how can you possible make any statement about how hell works in any way shape or form when it is an unconfirmed place and the source material for said unconfirmed place is a book that is very sketchy in terms of fact and history.
While I'm an atheist I do love mythology, he referring to the Dante's Inferno style hell. The Devil, fallen angel Lucifer, isn't the ruler of hell. Lucifer is it's most famous prisoner next to Judas Iscariot (Betrayer of Jesus), Brutus of the Junii (Betrayer of Julius Caeser) and Cassius (Betrayer of Julius Caeser). The actual ruler of hell is God with him and his angels performing the torture. Not a giant leap in terms of morality for God and the Angels.

But you're right on questioning him, The Bible is wonderfully sketchy on the subject including whether Lucifer has even been in hell (he spends most of the Bible outside of it, tempting people), whether it's even possible to end up in hell after the death of Jesus removes sin from the world. Most of the mythology of hell is from post 1000AD written by fire and brimstone types.

Yeah it's pretty clear you haven't read the bible so I'm just gonna tell you that in the bible there are no circles in hell, no ruler of hell, Satan is every bit the prisoner there as everyone else, it's described as fire. that's it.

That's sorta what I'd thought...mind you, they couldn't advertise the fact.

Unless Satan was a mad sadistic type who tortured you because he could, and would hurt whoever he could get.
Wow, your comments just made me have a revelation; woukdn't hell be a masochists heaven?
Presumably a Masochist would have to watch another one being tortured, that or just have their senses dulled.

Well, since there are many religions that involve the Christian God (Islam, Judaism), and since if you believe in Him in the wrong way you go to hell (John, not sure where, And all those who believe in him will be saved, and all those who don't won't), It's safe to assume that almost everyone goes to hell. And since it's about belief, and not how good you are, I'm fairly sure hell is just like the real world, except without war and with better leadership. Same with Heaven, but heaven will have less people, and probably more elitism.

Satan certainly gets out to tempt people a lot. If security in hell is that lax, I reckon I would be out in a week.

I don't see Satan (A.K.A Lucy, as he is addresed by my Friend) being much of a dick.
I mean, he's an Angel and he obviously learnt to stop being a dick from his mistake that got him sent to Hell in the first place.

Well, there's Security Guards Sloth, Wrath, Envy, Avarice, Pride, Vanity and Lust on the job, I can't see how things went wrong there...

Heaven is where you want to be. Hell is just where you don't want to be.

As for Satan, I see him as the symbol for the natural order of things, of chaos, and anarchy; conversely, God is the symbol of order, structure, and to an extent conformity and uniformity. So by your definition, Hell would be just a chaotic place; where Heaven would be an orderly, structured place.

It is actually a really nice place. You should go there. That Satan guy, actually not that big of a dick. It is just propaganda.
This. He's totally just misunderstood. He slips one note into God's comment box, suggesting a few changes in office protocol, and next thing you know, bam. Relocated to the Hell branch of the company. What a dick move.
I'd really love to hear Satan's side of things. I wonder if he is just too humble to say anything while God is saying all that negative stuff about him. I'm not sure I want to trust someone who doesn't give his opponent a fair chance to explain himself.

Though maybe I am wrong, as I barely know anything about the lore of hell in the first place.

Read Dante's Inferno
Read Larry Niven's Inferno
Read the Twilight series in an inferno for all eternity, that is what hell is like

To understand Hell you must understand just how appalling sin really is to God. Although not outrightly stated in the bible, (It is kind of told in an allegorical story in the Old Testament, but I believe the main meat of the story comes from added Hebrew mythology) Satan was an angel, who got too proud and believed that he knew more than God, and wanted to usurp God and take over the universe. This single sin meant that God banished him from Heaven for eternity. Satan isn't remorseful, it wasn't a mistake, it was a deliberate calculated act, and he continues to attack God by attacking what God loves most; us, tempting us to sin, condemning us to the same eternal punishment, (If it wasn't for satan, Adam and Eve wouldn't have sinned and thus man wouldn't need a saviour.)

The bible talks more about Hell than it does Heaven, it calls it a place of "gnashing teeth, where their worm will not die" and Jesus tells the story of a rich man going to Hell, where he cries up to heaven to help him, because he is in torment. So it is not just a place of separation, but active suffering, and we are fully guilty of the punsishment and deserve it. I'll stop here, because this post could go on forever.

Hell is where cute little babies go if someone doesn't dunk them in some arbitrarily-superior water when they're born.

Not that I think that it's a stupid rule or anything...

Well, I do. The baby did nothing wrong, damn it!

But aside from that, accepting an idea of Hell depends completely on accepting an idea of a soul. And when you believe in souls, you can believe in anything.

So if I were writing, I don't know, a documentary on Hell, I'd probably describe it as being the sum of the worst fears of the scummy person imprisoned there. Unless they do something that's bad but not that bad, like stealing £20 from a friend's house, then it would just be moderately unpleasant. And there'd be a scale of horrible-ness between those two points.

Whereas Heaven would be the opposite. If you're a good, decent soul, it's just a nice place to be. But if you dedicate your life to helping other people and making the world a better place, it would be a combination of everythinng you could ever possibly want, forever.

That sounds nice, right?

I will entertain the Hellraiser methodology, that there are many hells and many forms of demons in those hells.
