Considering chances are good we're all going to die because of them within our lifetimes, yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the things.

All it's gonna take is one nutjob somewhere pressing the big red launch button, and that'll be the spark that ends the world as we know it. Considering more and more nukes are being made and more and more countries have them, it isn't too far off either. So yeah, screw nukes!

The whole entire world dying and the survivors cannabilising the radioactive dead while they slowly die of radiation poisoning thing just doesn't seem that great to me.

Well, we owe them for a lot of great fiction. Dr. Strangelove(also the namesake of this thread) comes to mind.
Though I'm not sure we need them. They're not really "weapons." I mean, maybe if we were fighting a giant monster or something they would be, but there's no need for that much power.
Some day we'll invent something more destructive and that requires less cleanup time.

right now everyone is scared shitless of them and is scared shitless of firing them. ANY and I ANY country that fires a nuclear bomb would probable be destroyed or destroy every other country it thinks would be a threat in paranoia. It's more or less a lose lose situation. I still think we should have them because there may be a point when we would have to use them not on earth (I'm a nerd so shoot me). but until that point no country would ever fire one
