Well, The 'Pist is the first result on many Google searches for many video-gaming topics, especially breaking news; so I suppose it could be thought of as a good gaming news website, as it should be.

The forums however, as said before, are probably thought of as elitist, 'cos goodness if we don't love thinking of ourselves as the only polite, well-spoken forum on the 'net... There was a thread similar enough to this about 8 months ago, where the general response was pretty much "The users are better than the users of other websites." So elitist sums it up nicely.

I guess they missed the fact that he's a game CRITIC. Critic meaning someone who points out flaws...hmm...besides its better to be surprised by how good a game is rather than by how bad a game is.

Well, unfortunately it's actually an accurate observation. I've noticed a lot of people on here actually fall into the Yahtzee-clone trap without realising it. Failing that, they don't have any sense of humour at all.

Note to any and all: I'm not saying this applies to everyone.

Or are you being ironic...? Damned internet and its lack of conveying subtlety!

I'd wager we're seen as a pretentious bunch of elitists. Which isn't true, obviously, but I can certainly guess why people would misinterpret it that way.

Pretty much what I was gonna say and, in a way, it's a bit true.
If a new person posts something wrong on the first page of a popular thread, they're gonna take some flak for that. Not that that's a particularly bad thing, as I believe it's our job as Escapists to help one another towards the light (or so to speak), but as a new member, this could scare you away somewhat. There's also the fact that new members tend to not hold their tongues too much, which people who've gotten a better grasp of the community tend to not take lightly. I think this is more down to how other forums conduct themselves, which (and I've been on a few) is quite lacking in comparison. But this can scare some people away. I think this is the main reason why we're seen as a bunch of elitists.

I think it's extremely difficult to judge a forum based on a snapshot of a particular hour, day or week for that matter. It's the nature of forums to be ever changing, isn't it?

You don't have to like every single post to find something of interest in a forum. There are plenty of threads I never read.

But then again, everyone is going to think the forum they call home is the best. So it doesn't surprise me that the Escapist may be bad talked in other forums.

Indeed, that was interesting. We're elitists to a certain point. I'll admit that.

I would like them to come over here and try to get a good conversation with them.
