Do you have in set up by artist? Genre? Playlists?

Mine is set up to organize by genre, with separate playlists for the different kinds of genre. I have separate playlists for Alternative music and for death metal and stuff. So, just wondering how the Escapist's users organize their music, if at all?

I used to have it set up by album but I changed it to artist so I can listen to all their albums in a playlist :3

I rarely use playlists, at best I have 2 at any time, which get changed about once every 6 months.

Orgawhat? Seriously though, I just flip through my big default list on itunes (it is by album) until I see a song I want to listen to.

I often tend to get really obsessive compulsive with how I organize my music. Same goes for my pictures and videos etc.....

My Ipod is set up with a heap of playlists, each one encompassing an artist, but when I have enough artists that fall within the same musical category, I just lump them all together into the one playlist.

Usually it doesn't matter though, because I just end up hitting "Shuffle" most of the time.

I have a CD case in my car, filled with around 30 CDs and they're organised alphabetically by band and sub-organised chronologically if I have more than one album by each band
My CDs at home aren't organised at all because it takes way to long to move everything around every time I buy a new CD, which is like once a fortnight

Putting music on my computer is baaaaaad voodoo. Since the day I got this laptop, it mysteriously breaks every time I try burning discs into it. Sure it might work for a day, or a week, but after a while, it dies. It's happened three times already (I've had it since Christmas). The only cure is wiping my laptop of all my foul hedonistic jingles. Is my taste in music THAT bad?
*I'm not lying, by the way*

Anyway.
I have all my albums set up in a racks in alphabetical order. That's how my touchy laptop does it, before it gets all picky and refuses to work. See laptop? My racks can handle it, WHY CAN'T YOU?

I organize my music by artist name, but I rarely listen to all my music at once I usually just go to artist and then select the song I want to listen to. I usually just listen to last.fm most of the time though.

Mine's just set up in alphabetical order of song title: I don't listen to my music off of iTunes usually.

Yeah that's right, a ZUNE.
I miss my Zune so much. My old 80 gig broke, and when I finally had enough money to buy a new, fancy HD one, Microsoft had announced that they weren't going to be supporting it anymore. The iPod seemed like it was the better investment. But to this day, I long for my Zune...

OT: I go by artist. That's the easiest way for me to find everything I need.

Never owned a Zune, but they became awesome in my eyes when some models were pre-installed with Grandaddy songs.

Plus they're all obscure and stuff which makes the little hipster inside of me squirt.

My CDs are organized alphabetically by artist, and then chronologically by album.

Compilations are at the end organized vaguely by genre/country/time period.

This is exactly how I organise my CDs. *high five* For organisation!

As for my digital collection, organised by artist alphabetically. That said, I'm usually very specific with what I want to listen to at any time, and prefer to listen to a whole album/piece at a time, rather than individual songs/movements.

In my actual music folder, I have all of my songs in separate folders first by artist then by album. All of the album folder names have to include the date. From that point it's obviously the song files which have to be renamed for grammar purposes and to make sure the track number isn't in the name.

Within iTunes, I just have the list view set to show me artists and albums. It makes it really easy to select what I want.

I just have one huge folder with everything in it. I do have albums saved as playlists and related tracks aswell but for the most part it's a mess. I know my way around that mess, though.
