Maybe this is just the case for me, but now-a-days whenever I see someone saying that they are a "proud homosexual/bisexual whatevs'" I always think "so? Is that still the rage these days?". I have rarely, if ever, seen any homophobic activity where I live, so I'm always confused as to why there still are so many that feel so proud in announcing their sexuality. I'm 17, and I think that about 50% of all the girls I've met are bisexual.

But once again, this may just be me. How is it where you people live?

I have no idea. I can't remember the last time sexuality was even mentioned in a regular conversation. It's just not a big deal here (Norway).

I'm not sure how many homophobic people there still are, but they tend to be able to spout off in larger groups or in the anonymity of the interwebs.

(wow, 50%? How will your town keep up their populations? D: I suppose all the bi-sexual girls could get married twice, once to a man and once to a lady. That way, everything is okay.)

A-lot of homosexual/bisexual grow up in households/towns that might not accept them because of religious or personal convictions. Also, if they have strong Christian (or insert other religions that don't accept homosexuality) they are sometimes cast out of their religious communities and their own personal belief structure is threatened.

That being said, some places are easier than others and some are way worse, it's still not safe to be a homosexual in the US of A. (I can't comment on the state of other nations because I'm a USican)

Loads of people are still homophobic. How many people support gay marriage, but think it's 'murky territory' when it comes to homosexuals adopting children?

I'll tell you: Lots.

Then what is the big social social issue in Norway?

Too many, most people don't even realise they are.

Sometimes I discribe things as "Gay" as just something thats lingered from my childhood I'm actively trying to stop doing it though, I'm the first to spring to the defence of gays when there targeted or talked about unfairly.

Well then, I guess you guys live in a utopia.
Oh I'm sure there's something...

[sub]Processing...[/sub]

Fuck...
I'm drawing a blank.
Can't think of any wide debates like the "gay marriage" and "abortion" stuff you've got going on in the states.

There are some people who debate whether we should allow the press into the court during Breivik's trials.

Edit: I just remembered one.
Farmers want to be allowed to kill wolves and bears, but the rest of the people (who care) wants to keep them, seeing how we only have, like, five wolves in the entire country.

And how we should treat fugitives. Some people disagree on that.

Captchas:
"Describe this brand with any word(s)"
"I have no idea what brand this is"
It worked. Lol.

Actually, I just remembered one. We have a little too many immigrants.

The less common appearance is, to my mind, really just due to there being something of a social stigma attached to being homophobic these days. Someone who has deeply harboured homophobic beliefs or who only feels comfortable sharing their views amongst those they know they agree with is still a homophobe. If there wasn't such numbers behind the opinion, things like same sex marriage or adoption rights wouldn't have such a hard time passing pretty much anywhere in the developed world.

You ass.
You just reminded me that I'm supposed to be writing a speech against work immigration for Norwegian class.

And I'm supposed to bring an analysis of the rhetoric in some speech for tomorrow. Fuck.
Edit: Phew, it wasn't for tomorrow.
I can procrastinate for a little while longer.

OT: A lot.
In the undeveloped parts of the world, at least. In the west we're starting to get rid of them, but there are still a good deal of them even here.

What makes someone homophobic?

Does not supporting gay marriage make you homophobic? If you support gay marriage but don't support the right for gays to adopt, does that make you homophobic? If you run into a gay person and have to run home and shower right away because you're afraid you're going to catch the gay (OK, maybe we can all agree that THAT makes you homophobic)?

For me personally, I think gay marriage is OK as long as the minister/priest who is residing over it is OK with it. I don't think you should force someone to go against their belief in marriage, does that make my view homophobic?

There are a lot where I am, but most of the gays and lesbians I know aren't all that concerned with confronting them. They're happy just to be left alone.

A big chunk of people who are homophobic are either gay themselves, old to the point of expiring, or religious nuts that listen to whatever others tell them instead of having an open mind or learning about the vast world that they live in.

I think men tend to be more inclined to be "homophopic" and I dont mean that in "men hate gays"

I just mean guys tend to be disgusted by the Idea of male gay sex...to the point of it being a phobia...

obviously not all of them hate gays...

In my area the people don't tend to be openly homophobic but they will quite happily be homophobic when in private.
It is really only the older generation though from my experiences.

the "slipery slope" argument is bullshit..I cant belive people use it as a justification

why? because two conseting adults...is victemless

dead people animals and children...thats got victms (well in the case of the dead person thats arguable but its not respectful in any sense)
