It seems we have reached a consensus.

Should I bring up with him on Monday?

So...the letter u is an upside-down n and Z is a sideways N, and p is an o with a penis....hence the name- "pee"

You are correct, capital letters are identical to that of their counterparts -they are only used in grammar.
^This. Tell your teacher that he/she is an idiot. Give him/her a good smack for me.

I said 26 and I was marked wrong as the teacher said "Capitals and small letters, there are actually 52 letters in the alphabet." I argued that were fundamentally the same and he said they are totally different symbols used in different situations than each other.

Who's right?
That... is the stupidest reason to mark someone wrong in the universe. Its your classic "Here's your obvious answer, no, wait, its the answer you would never have got if you lived to a million."

Do it. Or, you could try to be a smart-ass with him and ask if he also counts the "52" cursive characters in the English alphabet, which would give a grand total of 104 letters. Use his own moon-logic against him.

In the English-Latin alphabet? You're right.

I could be an intellectual prig and point out that there are dozens of alphabets formed from Latin alone, setting aside Script, Arabic, Hebrew, Calligraphy, Crylic and millions of indegenous letters, but that's just acting smart-arsed.

Edit: His answer is better. Cursives ftw

This for the alphabet, add a further 10 symbold for numbers, and your teacher is nerked. You win OP, so go falcon punch that teacher on behalf of the smartasses at the Escapist (i.e. everyone here).

well, spanish speaking, using that logic, there a lot more letters than they appear in the alphabet because of the 'acento' (a/á,o/ó) wich also changes the meaning of the word (but yeah, your teacher is wrong/WRONG). There's also the 'ñ' wich comes after the n, wich seems logical.

Nerdy speaking, in ASCII code uppercase and lowercase letters have different code than their respective equal.

Just tell your teacher that in elematary school they don't theach the alphabet a lowercase, b lowercase, c lowercase... z lowercase, A uppercase...

What about all those?

But the Arabic alphabet has a different cap/lowercase letters.
As well as different forms for beginning/middle/end of words.

I think your teacher is suffering from chronic smart-ass syndrome, because I have a funny feeling that had you said 52, he would have bollocked you for 'trying to be clever'

Against this kind of fool, there is no right or wrong, save in how well you deal with it. Ignore, like you would a forum troll; paying attention only encourages them

EDIT: If you need to out-smug him, point out that the word 'the' has 2 letters, and 'alphabet' has 8, making a total of 11 letters in 'the alphabet'
