Gaming really is dangerous. I can't think of any other entertainment based hobby that chews so much time and can completely destroy a person. I don't know any bookworms or film buffs that are as pathetic as these people.

If you seriously think that (and it seems you do), I don't know how to change your opinion. I have friends that I didn't meet in WoW, and I have friends I did meet there. They're the same quality friends, but the WoW ones are three times as many (not counting my family and relatives, obviously). I do not regret a single hour spent in that game. (Five years worth).

You're partaking in your social relationships through a barrier of security. These friends of yours online aren't really connected to you other than through voice and by game. You have never seen them outside of the game, you have not seen how they interact with the world and you are interacting them with the equivalent of a brick wall between you.

Of course you don't agree with me, you're too entrenched to do so. And that's fine! I realise that people can make friends online, but to suggest that being friends in WoW and being friends in real life is equal is ridiculous.

Real life>Fantasy. Of course there is a place for both and of course you can be enriched by both, but one is significantly more important and holds more gravitas than the other.

Even trying to suggest to me that talking through a laggy voice communication system and cartoon characters is as equal as real life conversation is being completely ignorant to biology. Face to face conversation and non-verbal cues count for a fuck load.

I think the point theres being made is that you are just as close-minded as anybody else you can think of. World of Warcraft is not the only game online

I never claimed it was. I was talking to someone explicitly about World of Warcraft. Hence why I focused on that.

Again, focus on the fact that right now she is more like a cancer to soceity and her habbit is infact hurting other people than those close to her. She is indirectly hurting the rest of the people on Goverment fund.

I knew two back in the US. Both times some other friends and I did our best to try to get them out of the habit, not through direct intervention, but just through doing other fun stuff in the same apartment (though not in the same room) and inviting them to join us if they got up to see what was going on. It worked completely for one of them: took time, but he eventually got out of it, and while he still plays, it's not nearly as much. It worked temporarily for the other, but after a while, he fell back into it and last I knew, he hadn't recovered yet. That quality is the whole reason I stay far away from MMOs, because I know if I start I'm the kind of person who could easily get myself wrapped up into it in the same way.

Same here buddy, although I don't really attribute how sad I am to gaming so much as my general indolence and misanthropic demeanour. I've had times where I've been addicted to games, but eventually you will get sick of playing the same thing over and over again and you'll find a substitute to break the monotony. Even if it isn't game related, I spend way too much time on the Internet/listening to music on my laptop for example.

You talked about World of Warcraft socialising in a different matter. Facebook and Escapist might be online but you claim World of Warcraft socialising is in fact. Anti-Social because it prevents her from showing up at events you find to be more important.

god damn it, knew i should have spell checked before posting. but rather then focusing on a single spelling mistake you should look at what i was trying to say. and the fact is games are a medium, people are the ones that take it too far. just like guns don't go around killing people, people using guns go around killing people. you cant tell people games are dangerous, because they really aren't. what you should be saying is take a bit of responsibility for your own actions and don't take gaming to far, because your harming yourself and other people around you by being so selfish.

If I really believed games were sign of the devil and that everyone who uses them is anti-social, I wouldn't be a signed up to a gaming website, would I? By cutting out every other parts of peoples post you prove that you didnt show interrest in the rest. Its a bit like say, listening in real life to a guy having a speech. Then when he is done you pick at the fact that he used wrong grammar in second sentence from top.
