One more year left on a BS in Physics, a supplementary major in Applied Mathematics, a two minors in Astronomy and Economics. I couldn't make up my mind in life, can you tell? :p

I finished my first year of my BEng in Aerospace Engineering last thursday. Depending on my results, I may go on to do an MEng after my third year, but I don't think I'll be able to right now as I botched my january exams by not studying enough.

I just turned 35 y o and I just finished my first year as an electromechanic student. I admit at first I was nervous:" What's an old fart like me gonna do amidst 17-24 y o students?" But we have a really cool, friendly atmosphere.

It had been 17 years since I had heard of Pythagoras (heck I didn't even remember how to use a calculator) but the younger students were actually really nice in helping me with calculus, and with my decade of experience as a carpenter (and all around geek), I helped them with the more physical stuff, like how to use power tools, safety with welding equipment and how to read a plan.

I encourage people of any age to go back to school. Yes the learning curve feels steeper as you get older, but you can do it with a little help from the school staff and fellow learners, and I'm on my way to a great career... and the money doesn't seem too shabby either. :)

Just finished my first year doing BA (Hons) Forensic Computing and Security. It's been an interesting year and I really don't understand how some people become so poor as a student. I appreciate that (in the UK at least) Student Finance is used to give students financial aid in the form of loans and grants and in my experience, so long as you spend your money wisely and you're not stupid about it, you shouldn't need to worry too much about money. However, yes I do appreciate that some people get royally screwed over in the amount that they are given.

UK student here.

Did 2 years of Law. Found out that doing Criminal Law for a career and not going to Oxbridge is a waste of time.

Moved to English and Computer Science. Disliked Computer Science.

Did 2 years of English and Film. Left after two years because a better opportunity came up.

Now moving to Shanghai so I can study Chinese and Business. I've always liked China (as anyone who notices me on China-related threads may have guessed) and frankly in the UK, there are no bloody jobs worth a damn, there are no places to bloody well live and I have come to the feeling that I just don't fit in with the people my age, but that's because I'm probably a boring person who doesn't like binge drinking and fighting.

While it has plenty that is good, I don't know why so many people move here, or why so many people stay here. There is no opportunity for young people here, so I feel it's time for us to jump ship (plus if you jump ship out of the EU with student debt, they can't get you to pay it back; serves the buggers right to raising it so high).

I'm at sixth form, AS, currently bracing for impact for the exams next week.

I am doing:
-AS English Literature
-AS French
-AS Psychology
-AS Physics

In A2, I will do:
-A2 English Literature
-A2 French(hopefully, but I am doing better in Physics at time of speaking, but time will tell)
-A2 Psychology

The reason for physics was that I liked it in GCSE, and I wanted to continue physics for at least a year because I love the sense of exploration surrounding it.

However, I soon learnt that the education system sucks the fun out of everything you like to learn, and also A2 Physics practically requires AS Maths, and I'll be buggered before I consciously decide to study that tripe after how boring and stifling the subject was in GCSE(and how its taught in general, to me, it's like putting my brain into a jar containing Vogon poetry spoken ad infinitum).

I'd like to get into Uni, and (preferrably) do Philosophy, Psychology and Linguistics(it doesn't require an A level in Philosophy, there's just a "logical reasoning" entrance test, requirements, A*AA), if my predicted grades won't be all that great, then I will do English Literature and Language(requirements AAA).

I also forgot to add that I plan to learn programming(self-taught, at home) during the summer holidays, in A2, and maybe during Uni if I have the time. I'd like to have learnt at least Python and Java by the end of A2.

Im currently studying for my A-Levels in the UK (im 18 for reference). Provided I get my grades, I'll be starting my 4-year Chemistry degree at Oxford this October. Looking forward to it alot!

Thankfully student finance is going to help alot, but still money wont be easy.

Poll maybe? Get a count of high school, university/college and employed people, then we get some hard numbers. My comp sci side is showing, isn't it?
Anyways, Canadian software engineering student here. Just finished 2nd year of university, planning to raise marks in 3rd year and then transfer.

I was a student until about a month or so ago.

I went to a community college to just get the basic bullcrap classes out of the way for cheap before transferring to a 4 year to finish up my degrees and certifications to become a history teacher.
Spent two years there and had another year to go but I had had enough by that point. I didn't like the classes, I didn't like the professors, I didn't like the student body, I didn't even want to go into the field I was studying for. I was pushed into it by family.
I did well enough and had good grades but college and academia just were not for me.

So I dropped out and am currently looking into trade schools while taking some time to just relax. Currently I only work part time at a gas station and I have since my last years of high school. Money is good for what I do but I want and need something more.

Studying for 1st year exams and working towards a BSc in Physics and Maths. At least, I'm meant to be studying now, rather than reading random threads and Cracked articles.

It requires some elements but as far as I remember its relatively light on the maths side. As far as I remember its a case of you get x formula and you punch the numbers into it

Right now I'm finishing my A'Levels (I had to repeat a year) and I want to get into university to study Psychology.
I don't plan on working until the course requires it so that I can focus on my tons of games studies.

I was in the same boat last year. Physics was the subject that thoroughly screwed me over and the reason for my repeating, for pretty much the same reasons you said.

Good luck for your exams, mate. I know better than some how brutal they can be.

I thought about it but it takes away some of the discussion value. It is surprising how few people have surprised from the employment side of things. Im holding the fort on my own here

Theres also an overwhelming majority or science/tech/engineering

Yello :3

I'm a student at the university of Antwerp, Belgium. I am currently in my 3rd year of my bachelor of Biomedical sciences.
I can proudly say that i am among the 1% of my bachelor, meaning that only a handfull of people actually chose this particular Bachelor because it was interesting, and not because they failed the entrance exam for doctor, surgeon etc...

If I pass my bachelor (I got one exam that I have to redo so far, T_T still feel sad about it) I'll probably follow Clinical Scientific Research (One of the 6-7 Masters available to us). But that means I'll have to learn how to draw blood (but that's scary T_T) and I'll probably pick a 'Research' minor which includes working with laboratory animals (I can't kill them those mice are so freaking cute :3).

My exams start in a little over 2 weeks and last until the end of June (6 exams spread out quite evenly so yay for that).
But I'm still in denial in regards to the upcoming exams.

When I close my eyes, the exams will dissapear, yes yes yes safety, Science will safe me everythigns gonna be alright Mr. teddy everythings gonna be al..... right....
:D
