It seems to be Apples policy to not bother repairing any of their stock if they get broken/have software issues, every time anyone I know has had a problem with their idevice the Apple store guys have just issued them a brand new one without any fuss.

My sister got an ipod touch, and the screen smashed after about 4 months, when I took it into the store they explained that the screen was glued on, so they couldn't fix it, and instead gave her a new one. My dad got an ipad, a few months after it first came out, and has had it replaced twice since then because of software errors, again no attempt to fix it, just hand the old unit in and issue another one.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this business practice, and what they think about it. It seems really wasteful to me, how can Apple turn a profit when they have gone through 3 ipad devices when my dad only paid for one?

My original ipod touch stopped rotating the screen and they repaired it without replacement. It was the same when my latest one's screen shattered. However when it's been a software issue they just replace it, takes time though my nearest apple store is 70 miles away

Never. I still have my Gen 2 ipod nano that I got for Christmas years ago. It's a bit roughed up but it works fine.

Once. I got one of the third gen nanos as my first iPod, but it was only 4gb, my music collection is about 5 times that.. so I swapped it with my brother's fifth gen iPod classic. Works like a dream. A very scratched and slightly dented dream.

I still have my 4th gen iPod Nano, my iPod Touch's screen was shattered after a teacher dropped it after I went through the metal detectors, Apple wouldn't replace it but advised me to complain to the school and the school gave me 500 school store credits. I'm holding out for another next week.

Once. But that was because it was stolen. I never had problems with my ipods. I've had a first gen nano and it still works because my friend, who I gave it to, still uses it. All have great battery life. The nano still last 10 hours on max volume and with constant use. My iPhone 4 will last almost 2 days with contant use and 75% volume (of max) music. Checking FB, using apps and playing games. I can make it last for over a week on one charge easy without limiting myself that much. I just won't have 3G on or wifi. Most of the people I know went from mp3 players to iPods/iPhones just because they were unreliable and the Apple products are more user friendly. My 63 yo dad picked up an iPhone at the age of 60 and he had no issues about learning using it.
