Wow, I thought my $3400 (£2200) was outrageous, I have a '97 Mazda Protege. Since I've gotten it I've paid about 1.5 times its value in insurance.
They have more ridiculous taxes on their stuff.selce said:I pay about $2.60 - $2.75 per gallon, which is about 55 p per liter to you folks across the pond.
kinda seems cheap compared to what you all are paying.
True. Between fuel duty and VAT about 70% of the cost of petrol is tax.crimson5pheonix said:They have more ridiculous taxes on their stuff.selce said:I pay about $2.60 - $2.75 per gallon, which is about 55 p per liter to you folks across the pond.

I'm pretty sure your high gas prices compared to ours is entirely a function of taxation.deadman91 said:Shit, I thought we were getting ripped off at about $1.30 AUD ($1.15 US). You poms are getting screwed! Am I the only one thinking America needs to share the love a little?
I remember going through the economics of it, and when it came down to it the big issue was the lack of competition between major petrol companies operating in Australia. Its effectively an oligarchy keeping the prices high (not uncommon for a country so isolated from its major trading partners). But hey, let's face it, America is still the world's economic punching bag so I'll blame you guys anyway.crimson5pheonix said:I'm pretty sure your high gas prices compared to ours is entirely a function of taxation.deadman91 said:Shit, I thought we were getting ripped off at about $1.30 AUD ($1.15 US). Our taxes on gas are lower here.
