hello again my fellow escapist's, today am at my colleges computer lab and what am looking at is about 10 or so people playing league of legends and I thought to myself not 2 mins ago.....wow, this group of fine people are using school computers to play there game and taking up an entire table of computers from others and I have mixed feelings,( due to the fact that I too am a gamer and the fact that am typing this out on a school computer really gives me no right to accuse anyone off wasting time in school ) but to my main qusition.
how much do you dedicate too gaming? as in even at school or work do you find ways to satisfy your love of games or other hobbies ( for example thre are at least 5 people in this lab using the computers too anime but thats irrelevent.....) what are you thoughts.

(now if you'll excuse me time to use school computers to view some escapist videos)

Work has caused me to basically stop playing all games. When I'm a student I quite enjoy playing some games at the end of the day, but for some reason working a whole day just makes me want to zone off & not do anything interactive.

Usually I'd try and dedicate a couple of hours a day, but recently it's been a couple of hours a month. I suppose that's a good thing.

5 years ago, I was really into WoW (maybe too much). Raiding almost every nights, not sleeping enough (3 hours of sleep at most), not studying at all. Thankfully, I had the sense to still go out and see some friends (read here: get drunk).

I failed a year in high school because of this but didn't think much of it (I was 16).

Now I realise that I was dumb to do that just for a game, as addictive as it might be.

I still game (Xbox during the week-end and some PC gaming during the week after college classes) but will always put friends, beer and study before it though. I learned it the hard way that you can literally LOSE a year because of excessive gaming.

Just make sure that you're able to balance gaming and make it a hobby, not an obsession. I spent 7 months backpacking in Australia and didn't miss my computer nor my Xbox at all! (I'm kind of ashamed I'm surprised xD)

Work means I don't get to play games until a few hours before bed and over the weekend. Could be worse :D

High school started for me about a month ago and my gaming schedule is really getting hit hard. At my school homework is given with breaths of oxygen so any time I'm not spending working or sleeping I try to fit in some time to play videogames but its not very much. I still satisfy my love of games by listening to some of my favorite ost's and there's always weekends

This. At least I can watch videos and come here and such at work. And sick days are always good when a new game comes out. I'm an adult now so I can ignore my feelings of guilt for being "sick" when a title launches.

... Not to say my mom hasn't called me to say "the hell are you doing home! X came out today and I know you're not sick! Shame, Sammy.. shame."

"So, mom, does dad know X was coming out today?"

"...Yeah, I'm making him pick up dinner on his way home. I don't have time to cook."

Unfortunately my mom stopped playing video games during the 16-bit era >.>

Mine doesn't play as much anymore either, she's been busy and had such a long wait for T2. I think she's only around 30 with her Outlander so far. Don't know what level her Berserker is. Most of her online buddies have been away lately so she's probably just waiting for them.

I think the last game my mom played seriously was Mickey Mouse's House of Illusions. I can't believe she beat it back then, that game is pretty fucking hard.

Got it for her for Mother's Day a few years ago as a nostalgia gift :p

Lack of work means a lack of money for games. Pokemon comes out in a few days, and I will sadly be missing it.

When I was in high school, I was the only student in the entire school with a laptop. You bet I was gaming on that between notes. Usually just Solitare or something easily clicked away from when I needed to take more notes, but during free periods I'd play Might and Magic. Didn't do much gaming in class during college, because I was working at night as a security guard, which meant I was literally paid to sit in my car or a building and read books or play games on my laptop.

For me, school and gaming don't tend to interfere with each other. I sometimes lose myself in a game and end up losing some sleep to do my work, but that's becoming more and more rare for me.

I'm able to balance my studies and my gaming pretty well. I don't game much on weekdays even if I have no work, instead I normally browse the internet or read a book. At weekends I'll play for 2-3 hours a day, and spend the rest of the time going on walks, using the internet or hanging out with friends.

Before I went up to scotland to do the west highland way, my biggest fear was being bored due to not having any consoles or computers or books, but in the end I was too exhausted most days to feel bored, and it was a great time for me to just relax and think for a couple of days. So you shouldn't be ashamed- it happens to all of us.

Pretty much all my time I should spend socializing with friends is taken up by gaming if i'm not studying or working. Some time for the girlfriend as well but damn is it a hassle!

Since I have a 40-hour a week job and am married I only have so much free time. Fortunately my wife is often exhausted at the end of the day after her work and so goes to bed a lot earlier than me. I go about an hour later and so get my gaming, reading and other entertainment time done then.

Its means that I don't game as much and so, when I do, I either play an old favourite or a newish game (after I hear good things). I don't tend to buy things brand new anymore because I don't have the time/money to just buy whatever.

No, school comes before play, but that doesn't mean I haven't been guilty of "I'll just play this for a few hours then I'll do X." Right now, I got a major presentation to do, so my gaming has come to a screeching halt.

Occasionally I will stay home in the afternoon to play a game that's just been released, as long as I don't complain about being behind in school work. Dad doesn't approve that much, mom figures I'll learn when it bites me in the ass.

Balance is key.

Gaming is something I do in my spare time, Though I do love that feeling of clocking out knowing I'm going home to play a new game, or If I'm near a boss or something!

Without work I'd have more time to game, but less games to play as I couldn't afford it!

That is exactly what I have heard from everybody ever, and it is super right.

I am going into my last year of schooling, and the time I have played video games has been getting smaller and smaller. Between schoolwork, exercise and socializing my gaming hobby has become an hour or two every 3 days. But I guarantee you that I still love every minute of it.

And Dad blames technology on everything, my younger brother who is in his first year of High School has a bit of an addiction to LoL, Dad is not amused because it REALLY effects my brothers priorities. As you said, 'Balance is Key'

Not so much work commitments as much as adult life commitments, the only time work interferes is when I have to have an early night if I'm on an early start. The biggest drain is having to use days off to go get shopping, clean/fix things round the house and keep the lawn/garden tidy.

I agree that balance is definitely important (the all day, all night Final Fantasy marathons from my University days are sadly a thing of the past) however I find that I enjoy gaming more now I get less opportunities.

Yeah, I've kind of given up my life when I decided to take the hardest course load of anyone else in the school. I'm just taking a 5 minute break right now to type this and maybe get another one next month if I'm lucky.

Because of my job my work hours are kinda crazy but it's like any hobby, business before pleasure. That being said I'm one of those people who makes to do list, makes time to get stuff done, doesn't procratinate and actually tries to prioritize the important stuff.
