I'm curious, I'm thinking about picking up Wow as a desto lock but i'm not too interested if the grind is really as bad as everyone says. I want to play because after my friend got her hunter to lvl 80 she wants me to play. So can anyone give me a time frame for play time, just until I can go on like raids.

I wouldn't know the specifics, but from what I hear, it's grind-arific.

Gather up some friends, or some music, or possibly a TV. I assume you'll be there a while.

Well I don't mind playing a long long time. I just don't like leveling in the same spot for hours on end. Is it basically training in a spot by killing stuff? Or is it more Level-as-you-explore the regions type of game play.

The game has grind but if you get bored of questing, then grind pvp, or grind dungeons. So there is alot of options of what you want to grind.

I play the game and find it varied and fun, also don't listen to the wow haters, most never played the game anyways.Oh and take it in maderation the game is fun to play ever now and again.

Yeah... because everyone who plays wow has thrown there life away, douchebag.

And no wow is not that much of a grind and i recommend a different class because locks can be very boring at max level.

lucky bastard has a girl that wants to play wow :\

1-70 is pretty grind-tastic. Northrend is considerably more fun than that, but still involving a fair amount of grinding. 80s exist only to grind themselves to a state where they can demolish anything in their way within 1-3 attacks/spells. Depending on personal inclination, however, you might enjoy leveling while going through storyline chain quests, although dungeons are easily the fastest way to level. This became so much more true after the randomized LFG made its debut.

But I think I'm rambling, so I'll summarize: It is indeed quite grindy, but not as bad as people say. If someone is willing to run you through dungeons, such as your friend, you can skip plenty of the currently-boring vanilla zones. Most of BC, too, if said friend is really good, or brings along a few others.

Honestly, until you're max level there really isn't any grind to speak of. Boy does that change at level 80 though.

Its really easy (at least when i quit about 6 months ago and ive heard its gotten easier). It is the least amount of grind out of any MMO i have yet to play. You can basically quest easily all the way to max level and imo it is one of the more fun leveling experiences in an MMO. Id say give it a shot.

Depends on how much you want to grind. I haven't found it particularly grinding, myself. The reason I'm not higher level (other than only playing a couple months at a time) is because I get easily sidetracked by exploring and crafting.

Then again, I have no interest in raids or PvP. If you want to do either of those, there's probably some inherent grind. Otherwise, the leveling system is very good these days. WoW isn't as casual-friendly as, say, City of Heroes, but it's one of the more casual-friendly MMOs out there.

Having played Everquest and FFXI, I can tell you WoW is actually pretty 'light' on the grind. Doubly so if your friend uses Recruit-A-Friend.

You won't really be spending hours in the same spot mindlessly killing the same stuff. Well, you can, but not only is it boring, it's also a very slow way to level.

You don't grind in WoW. You do quests. You can get from level 1 to level 80, just off quests. That is part of the reason so many people don't mind leveling in WoW.

Mind you, some of the quests feel like grinding, what with them telling you to collect 30 skulls, of which the monsters magically don't have 100% of the time.

this. Questing is fun and is not a grind, there are a few level brackets in the game that dont have enough quest zones and are difficult to pull through, but it's really not bad. What IS bad is the rep grind you have to do if you want to get anywhere in PVE endgame when you hit 80, or the money/recipes/rep grind you need to do if you want to high end crafting, or the PVP grind which is just a hilarious amount of time.

That said, if you haven't tried it and want to try an MMO, definitely try WoW. It's fun and worth your money.
