I'll put it this way: after finishing Deus Ex Human Revolution and finding a post on here that I could've just finish Jaron with a well placed takedown when he jumps over the wall, I had sufficient saves to go back to like 5 seconds before that fight and find out they weren't lying.

"Hello, My name is Evil Santa. And I am a save game addict."

OT: Yeap, though I only do it on RPG's. In FPS games I can go on for hours without saving (Thank (Insert deity here) for autosaves.) and I won't bother me. But in RPG's I have to save like every 5 steps.

Oh yeah I do this all the time in Metal Gear Solid. If I don't sneak perfectly past every guard or kill them undetected I immediately start over. Sometimes I end up stuck on a section for 2 hours just to get it OCD perfect

I'm pretty bad about this as well, but I made a some rules for myself to keep it fun and not abuse it too much.

One is that I won't reload to test different dialogue paths or actions, which I abused quite a bit in the original Fallout, in which saying one wrong thing can lead to a whole town trying to kill you. Unless I die, I have to live with the consequences. Following this rule should make the game a lot more fun and realistic--unfortunately I haven't yet played a game where dialogue is so important yet.

Another rule is that I have to try my best to fight my way out of bad situations. I found that while playing the original Deus Ex, if I encountered a large number of enemies I would often just let myself die rather than use a bunch of my precious ammo and then reload. That's not allowed either anymore. Same thing for picking locks in that game--I can't reload just because there was nothing cool behind the locked door.

I'm not actually that good at following my rules. I'm playing Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines right now, and I reload a lot if I have a masquerade violation or accidentally kill someone while feeding.

I think I'm the opposite in some games, but exactly the same in others. If there is a save counter in the game I pretty much won't save, I will let the game autosave, i.e. such as Fallout, I think this stems from Resident Evil, it was one of the games I used to play as a kid, and the attitude of not saving too often has stuck with me.
On the other hand, if there is no counter I will sometimes save all the time, like in Deadly Premonition, pretty much everytime I pass a phone I use it.
There are some exceptions though, such as GTA, I have probably saved that game 4 times, Bioshock I tend not to save in, unless it's on Hard mode, and most of the other games I own only ever auto save anyway like COD or Prototype, so for me it varies from game to game.

Also I never use continues in games, I hate that little box which says Ha ha, you suck and have had to use a continue, this is why I have never used a Vita Chamber in Bioshock.

Is it cowardly to have saved every 3 minutes in Quake IV whenever I was down to 10HP or less? Otherwise no, I only tend to save after a huge chunk of the game or in preparation for a boss battle or tough section.

Yeah games like Hitman and Splinter Cell teach you to whore the shit out of quicksaving and quickloading...

I suppose that I am. I load saves like crazy if a Total War campaign goes wrong for me. I have realized now that it makes them way too easy to beat that way. Therefore, I am starting to cut back on how often I load saves and try again.
I do the exact same thing if I ever lose a battle or a city I just relaod and try again. Thats why my record is alwys like 200 Vidtories 0 Losses.

I save all the time in games like Fallout and Oblivion. Mainly, because the second I forget to save for more than 30 minutes, some craptacular bug or freeze is like to occur and cause me to lose all progress through no fault of my own.

Don't get me wrong, love the games, but they seem to have a habit of punishing me for not saving regularly.

Yup, and it sees me well. Never once been thrown back into a jail cell in oblivion. It does sort of take the tense thrill off of sneaking around a guarded castle a smidge, mind. Ooh, then again, maybe an "auto-saves off, no loading when you die" play through of oblivion would be fun...
