It's pretty obvious that the AAA developers and publishers, for reasons usually their own fault, want to charge more for their games. However, it's unlikely that we'll see games go up in price in the next few years since riots (or at least internet bound ones) would break out in the USA should anything dare to show its head above the $60 mark. Here in the UK, where we seem to be experiencing a shortage of digital torches and pitchforks, they're slowly increasing prices and the latest AAA games now are £50 (over $80 at the moment) and the UK certainly isn't the only place where games are more than the equivalent of $60.
But long story short, imagine if instead of releasing a $60 game and then adding DLC, they made the base game longer, didn't bother with DLC and just admitted they want to charge more money for the assets they created. How much would you be willing to pay for what we would currently call a Game of the Year Edition if that was the first and only version of the game released?
