How much would you be willing to pay for a game?

It's pretty obvious that the AAA developers and publishers, for reasons usually their own fault, want to charge more for their games. However, it's unlikely that we'll see games go up in price in the next few years since riots (or at least internet bound ones) would break out in the USA should anything dare to show its head above the $60 mark. Here in the UK, where we seem to be experiencing a shortage of digital torches and pitchforks, they're slowly increasing prices and the latest AAA games now are £50 (over $80 at the moment) and the UK certainly isn't the only place where games are more than the equivalent of $60.

But long story short, imagine if instead of releasing a $60 game and then adding DLC, they made the base game longer, didn't bother with DLC and just admitted they want to charge more money for the assets they created. How much would you be willing to pay for what we would currently call a Game of the Year Edition if that was the first and only version of the game released? You can give specific examples if you like.

I'd say $40.00 US. That way you could keep the price at 40 for longer.

I can't remember when I paid 60 bucks for a game...wow that's a challenging thought.

For me the most I've ever paid for a single game is $90. But the reason for that was it was an import from Japan and I was preordering it so then I could get it, love Play-Asia for that.
Other than that if it's released in the States then I generally will not go higher than $70, but that's only for older classic games that are rare and hard to find. For modern games, like 7th gen to now, I generally will not spend more than $60 on a single game, but generally I stay within the $40-$50 range or wait for it to drop in price.

Really in my case though it doesn't affect me as much since I rarely buy new games anyway. I mean 2013 I actually did buy games that came out that year, but in 2012 I only purchased 1 game that was actually released in 2012 and that was Dream Drop Distances. I usually wait and shop around to see if I can get deals, but generally I've been buying a lot more older 5th to 6th gen games (PS1, PS2, GCN, GBA).

Of course I may have to amend my policy for how much I spend on a single game when it comes to whether I want the Misadventures of Tron Bonne, since at this point it's become one of the rarest PS1 games out there.

Again though, for me I'm a collector in a sense so that's why I spend so much from time to time.

I stick to Steam sales of already reviewed games. AAA and pre-order titles have burnt me far too much in 2013.

However, I have no problem spending $60 for a first party Wii U game.

If I'm sure I'll spend lots of time in the game £40 is the top, I spent that for GTA 5 and Skyrim and it was worth. For a smaller or more linear game I'll say £20 tops. I'm a cheapskate and don't want to spend lots of cash on something I might not like.

$35. If I really, really want to own the game. Otherwise, $20. And just including the DLC and pricing accordingly doesn't work for me since I don't know if I'll want any expansions until I play the actual game.

The most I have spent on a game was $70 for Karaoke Revolution Volume 3, cue to me going to Gamestop a year later and seeing it for $13. Dammit.

I have become stingy with my money as of late, and I can't see myself buying games at $60 anymore. The last one I bought was a preorder for Batman: Arkham City, which I felt was a major disappointment in the gameplay compared to the first game, but needless to say, I beat it 100% and called "Done!" on the Batman Video game franchise. Having heard the negative response towards the "Origins" game, something tells me I pulled out at the right time.

The most I will be willing to pay now, if I really want the game? I paid $40 for a New copy of the Mass Effect Trilogy and $40 for a New copy of Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut. Can't say for the games I have they aren't worth it, because they are to me, but $40 is about all I am willing to pay for anything anymore, and it depends how bad I really want the game.

If its a game Ive looked forward to for months and know it'll have a lot of replay value (ie. UMVC3, Injustice) then I have no problem paying full price for it. Otherwise I just buy them once they've dropped to the 15-40$ price range.

Through my time as a more serious gamer in the past, I got used to spending only £30 - that's around $49 for you American lads - on games, give or take a quid or two, so I find anything more to be overcharging. I am willing to pay around £38, but I'd be bitter about it. Recently Games have jumped to £40 - £45, which I'm not willing to pay; however, my static consoles are the PS2 and GameCube, so counter-intuitively I'd be willing to pay up to £50 for a used copy of a much rarer game.

In short, my spending is all over the place.

£30-40 is the maximum price I'd pay, anything higher would have to justify the extra expense and would have to guarantee fun and enjoyment for a longer peroid of time.

Other than that WoW is the most I've paid for a game since it's sub and expansion based.

80 euro, maximum and only if it's some kind of special edition with DLC or some extra features included.

I only buy ONE full priced game a year, and that's a combined present for Christmas, New Year and my birthday, so yeah. I get all my other games either used or after waiting for a pretty long time.

To be honest, I've not bought anything new for the last two years. Increasingly we're getting products in need of patches and DLC packs being put out for huge amounts of disposable income that I don't afford. With the advent of GOTY editions, it's going to become increasingly easy to wait, especially as I'm not planning on going next-gen any time soon.

That being said, I would be willing maybe to pay £40 maximum on launch day (or there abouts), if I were guaranteed a game I'd had my heart set on for a long time (cough, Dragon Age Inquisition) that didn't have bugs and was well reviewed. Aside from that, I'd say maybe £20 for a solid release within the last year (an Assassin's Creed, Arkham, Bethesda, Bioware), and maybe £15 for something a bit riskier.

$110.... Yay for living in Australia! I'd much rather pay $70-80 but that's not going to happen unless it's on sale.

It depends on the game. People will drop down 240 American for a 3DSXL and Pokemon X or Y.
A link Between two worlds was almost sounding like it was worth buying a 3DSXL for. I've spent over 200 in transactions playing a need for speed MMO for 3 years. I bought a 360 used FOR 100, COD MW2 used for 35 and a Xbox Live member ship for 50. I could play online with my friends.

I usually don't have a problem shelling out about $15 for a game, anything over that requires me to have been wanting it for a while.

These day's I rarely pay more than £20 for a game, more usually it's more like £10. My philosophy has always been buy 'em cheap, stack 'em high. I'd far rather walk out of a store with 8 £5 games rather than 1 £40 game. There's so many games out there that I've not got round to playing it seems stupid to pay £30-40 for a new game, just because it's flavour of the month. Wait six months and it'll be £20, wait a year and it'll be £10.

Ever since I began buying my games on Steam, I rarely buy a game for more than $20 - and that's only when I think that it's worth that much (most games don't). I only buy a game for more than $20 when I'm really excited for a game and want to play it on release day - which rarely happens.
