Bad taste, SlaveNumber23. That was in bad taste.

Not good.
I felt as though I was very reasonable, obviously I am missing something, care to explain?
Being 'reasonable' isn't inherently the same thing as being 'tactful'.
Fair enough, I apologize if I offended, I can be a bit of a sociopath sometimes. I was trying to play the scientist when making my argument.

Since you didn't see fit to post to me the way you did to the others the fact that you added my suggestion to your list I'm overcome with a sense of alienation and rejection!!!

I got my first (and only) warning for Low Content. I never saw it coming.

We're rooting for you, Vault101. I won't say that I mourn Mortai's banning even though he and I never tangled. He did seem to enjoy aggravating people. And he was too methodical and systematic for it to have been anything but intentional. I'll stop there, since it's not proper to speak ill of the banned.

But having been warned by the mods for a post I felt was perfectly acceptable I understand your uncertainty.

Tell him i think he got banned because he cared too much. Fun to read the arguments sometimes though.

NOOO! Don't get banned! D: I like you :( I'm sure I discovered one of my favourite musicians (Momus) in one of your threads, and you've been around for ages.

It'd suck so much if you did get banned, what have you done to get so many infractions?

OT: I've only ever had one warning, and that was so long ago it's not on my health bar.

Part of me feels like I should strike out and be more rebellious.

Now I feel all warm and gooey inside!

I kinda figured it out after reading it two or three times. After my last post. Thanx for the confirmation.

I know someone else mentioned it, but your new avatar is hypnotizing. I just keep watching the cute little kitty go back and forth and back and forth.

Reactions like mine have been explained scientifically:

Has anyone else had the behavior outlined in the OP effect their life in RL? I mean, I never went around being an asshole and doing some face-to-face trolling, but I find that since I've posted here frequently I'm far less likely to get angry with someone and try to analyse why they're upset (simulating having the time to type something out?) and if I respond I'm more constructive and helpful to them than I would before. I gladly accept this brain programming if it promotes peaceful interaction and understanding.

On that note, I can't believe the number of sites that claim to have mods, when the next step is scrolling through so much vitriol and...blech that would never fly here. Our mods are masterful and I fear their hammer, for it's wielded like Thor : )

I can sort of see why....not only is it incredibly annoying (with little artistic justification) but it also "may" cause seizures or somthing

mostly its annoying as fuck though

Are you serious!? I actually have to point this out!?

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/codeofconduct#

It's nothing new, it's been here since before I discovered the site! It's not hard to find either. In fact it's actually gotten easier to find over the years.

Sorry if I'm being terse but use your heads people. If you're unsure of a rule look it up it's one of the most straight forward sites I've seen, so remember, use common sense, and don't be a dick.

It is not odd. I was thinking it as well.

However, instead of funny, the OP is playing the part of Canadian Prime, which is to say he is performing the dutiful-but-unnecessary task of things that one rightly leaves to a staffer. You can go ahead and remind people of the rules, even often, but under the rule of "People don't like to be told.", this is in no way a desirable thing. It's not technically wrong, but can be technically irritating like the guy who tells you not to smoke even though there is a right to. (I don't smoke, but the idea is that I also don't care if others do.)

So, I have to really ask...what's this thread here for again?

mostly because I hate to see people get banned, Maybe they don't know why they are getting wrathed? This is just a guide.

Don't state extremely unpopular opinions without something to back it up. People will take it as flame bait.
Also avoid posting when angry.
Those two are how I got my first and only warning.

It's not always clear, I received a warning for being a member of a user-group discussing a topic that the staff disapproved of... despite that topic not being explicitly banned by the rules at the time (which has since been amended) and us getting the go-ahead from a Red Guard mod beforehand.

OT: Not one that comes up very often but I think it's worth mentioning:

12: Don't forget advocating illegal activities is against the rules, the mods turn a blind eye to fairly innocuous ideas like legalising weed or gay marriage but people have been modded for advocating arson or murder.

I can appreciate that it might be easy to let something slip when you are new to the forums, I myself received a warning for a low content post back when I was new to these forums. But the purpose of a warning is so that you learn from your mistakes. I believe that a person who truly wants to come across as a reasonable and respectful person will have no trouble in learning from their mistakes.

I'm not trying to be rude but I find it hard to believe its so easy to slip up. You said that to avoid all trouble you would have to go through everything you say with a fine tooth comb. This is very reasonable but I think it is evident in this very post you have just made that you do not review what you have written at all. What I refer to is that your post is fraught with spelling and grammatical errors. I apologize if any factors unseen to me are responsible for this but I believe that for a person to have reviewed what they have written at all they would have to notice the spelling errors at least, after all a wavy red line is placed underneath them and all you have to do is right click and the error will be corrected for you. I'm sorry, I'm not usually one to pick on spelling but in this case it was relevant to my argument.

It would be unreasonable to expect a forum user to give what they have written a full investigation but I don't believe it unreasonable to expect them to employ some care in what they are writing.
I think in most cases long-timers are banned because they just lose it. I've been here for a year now, adjusted to the rules and haven't received any warnings for a while - but there are times when I feel so pissed off I could just unleash a salvo of vitriol at certain posters and to hell with the consequences.

Or calling a poster a troll when they clearly are, that's another one. I don't think you have to be religious in making sure your post meets the rules, but there are ways a little slip of the tongue can bite you in the arse. If you're unsure if something breaks the rules, best not to post it.
