How often do you decide not to post to avoid CAPTCHA?

Simple question, how often do you decide that you aren't interested in deciphering another captcha and just decide not to post?

Very often. I just got it now, so normally I wouldn't have posted this, but since the subject is what it is...

I usually just hit CTRL+W, I have other things to do.

Never, because you can just refresh Captcha if you can't read the one you've got.
Refresh until you get a CAPTCHA that you can decipher still leaves you having to fuck with deciphering and retyping a CAPTCHA.

Never. For one, I've usually written what I intend to post by the time I notice the Captcha anyway, and two, it's not that difficult to decipher most Captchas (at least not with me) and if they are difficult you just refresh it until you can. You only need to decipher the one word anyway, you can put in whatever you want as the other one.

Meh. It's not that hard to refresh the captcha a few times to get a readable one. BTW, they're not case-sensitive, and you only have to type the word with the partially-inverted text.

Sure, it's not that hard to click a mouse a few times nor is it that hard to decipher and type it but it really is annoying and unnecessary.

Do you ever wonder why legitimate posters have to prove over and over again that they aren't bots? Is there no way they can program a flag in to only throw captchas at new posters until they prove they aren't bots? It's ridiculous and I guess I am curious how many posts were skipped because people didn't want to deal with CAPTCHAS.

This. The CAPTCHA is not really that harsh - you only have to guess one word (the one with the blob behind) and it doesn't matter what you write for the other. Furthermore, it's not case sensitive and you can make a few mistakes (2-3, if I remember correctly), so even if you can't read the whole word, you usually can read enough to pass it.

If somebody can't be bothered to spend an extra 5 to 10 seconds on the CAPTCHA (or, we could be more generous - 15?) then I doubt the post matters that much to them, and by extension, to the others.

It's funny that you think that the patience to deal with CAPTCHA is directly related to the quality of the post. I don't have to deal with CAPTCHA at other sites and I don't want to deal with it here. The quality of my posts doesn't have any bearing on that but you go on thinking what you like.

Occasionally, legitimate user accounts get compromised one way or another. If there were no captcha for users with a certain post count, you could end up with a stolen account suddenly spamming the shit out of the place.

And, yeah, I kinda agree with DoPo. If the few seconds it takes to fill in a captcha are more important than your post, then by all means, skip it. Save everyone else the trouble of reading a post that you yourself think is pretty much worthless.

IF that were to happen it could be flagged but since it is so rare there is no reason to force this crap on everyone. That's ok though, it's not like their servers can handle much traffic anyway.

Never really...

I tend to decipher CAPTCHAs pretty easily. And if I can't, that's what that nice little refresh button on there is for.

You know you can press the refresh if something is too illegible, right?

But to answer the OP, never. When I want to post, I post.

Let me clarify a couple of things.

- Yes, I am aware that you can refresh the CAPTCHA (this doesn't make it go away so it solves nothing)
- Deciphering CAPTCHAS isn't necessarily hard, it's fuckin' annoying.
- I am aware that you can cheat the CAPTCHA, that doesn't represent most people though and this is about people who don't cheat the CAPTCHA.

So please, no more helpful advice about how to properly use CAPTCHA.

Besides almost right now? Not often. I don't usually post because of content, not the captcha.

Never - I just have to refresh it a few times sometimes to get one that's actually legible.

If the alternative is lots of spambots (and I've been a member of forums where that was / is a problem) then I don't mind them, they're not that big a deal.

I've only had to refresh capchas three times in my life, and its so quick, it doesn't really matter to me.

Of course, I already only post a third or so of the times I look at threads, so by then I'm typically committed to the post already.

Sometimes, depends if what I think I can add will be worth reading. Otherwise, I'm not that desperate to make sure everyone knows my opinion on everything.

Except in this case, for some reason....

It seems that most people do not mind them, but there are those who seem to think that their time is the most important thing in the world. I say to those impatient people: just have patience and avoid rushing through things when it is not necessary; you have plenty of time, and impetuousness often leads to trouble.

One of the huge advantages of the Pub Club.

I got a captcha that was half-chinese once. That confused me.
