A lot of people impulse buy, but with video games is it different? With a slight discount are you lured into purchasing a game you otherwise would of passed by?

I'm a sucker for this, and having recntly aquired Steam, that only makes it worse. For example, in the Summer Sale, I bought 3 games that I alreadly own for xbox, just because I thought: "Wow, thats a good deal". Basically all my purchases were games I'd never shown any interest in.

What about you?

Rarely. Whenever there's a steam sale I say to myself "Well, if this, this or this are on the daily sales, I'll buy them. If they aren't by the end of it, I'll just get them anyway because they're still cheaper than normal."

I rarely go into a store if I don't know I'm looking for a game, though.

Never: I always do my research.

Always. Although I did go into psychonauts with only a few "its good!" reccomendations (this was before the game was rediscovered).

Usually whenever a steam sale eyes up my bank account. Other than that I usually carefully consider buying games

I hardly do this. I think the last games I bought on impulse were the Longest Journey games because they were really cheap on Steam and I've heard good things about them.

I try not to. Two recent exceptions would be Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno. I couldn't resell them fast enough. I hated them both so completely that to this day it surprises me. I actually finished DI though.

Its main reason I'm not getting Deus Ex. With Dark Souls, skyrim, Rage, Assassin's Creed, and Silent Hill coming soon I just can't justify getting another boring RPGshooter especially since I had played the original to the end(s) and found it utterly meh.

I know its not fair to the people making DE:HR to discount their efforts for those reasons, but its my money :p

I bought Mass Effect 2 solely because it had an 80% discount. I adore the game, strangely enough the dlc's I bought for it later cost me twice as much as the full game.

I usually do a little research at least before my impulse buy. But I do do it quite a lot, buying games I'm slightly interested in, in short notice.

If I had the money, I would impulse buy all the time. This frightens me. Today I went to get one game and was looking over my train fare considering if I wanted to get a very cheap but very good game in favour of trying to skip train fare. Thankfully I have more of a brain than to do that.
At least it's only with the cheap bargain-bin games which is kind of a plus.

I do it all the fucking time. I got "Hunted: The Demons' Forge" just yesterday because it was "cheap". I HAVE NO FUCKING INTEREST IN THE GAME WHATSOEVER! And what the hell is "Monster Jam" doing in my collection?! I HATE MONSTER TRUCKS!

Also, what the fuck:

Off-topic: These fucking captchas are ridiculous! I have to go through a fucking dozen of them before I find something legible!

Almost never. I'll buy things on a Steam sale or an XBLA sale, but those are usually games that I've been eyeing for a long time. I have to be pretty careful with my money, and most games are too expensive to be impulse purchases.

That said, I did impulse buy the XBL indie game "Epic Dungeon," and it's one of the best games $0.99 has ever gotten me.

Depends on the money in my wallet. If I have extra money on me, chances are pretty good I'll impulse buy. However, it's usually from a list of games that I've heard of before that I thought at one point or another: That sounds cool.

Like KotOR or Morrowind.

As you can see, I have rarely been disappointed by an impulse buy.

[Only time I was? Fable 2. WHYYYYYY.]

Barely ever, but i did for Two Worlds. For no reason other than it was a fantasy setting... worst mistake ever.
