Super Castlevania 4 - 1991

19 years.

Old school gamer over here.

Do I win? I'm pretty sure a 19 yr old game is the oldest anyone's said so far.

I am still totally in love with Starcraft: Brood War. I watch all the competitions(which are still more awesome than anything SC2 related), play it for hours at a time and participate in any local LAN I can find, though I'll usually end up in the lower places. It's amazing how a 12 year old game can do this to you.

For me it's a toss up between a good handful of games: Majora's Mask, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Symphonia, Twilight Princess, Digital Devil Saga, Borderlands and Wind Waker.

I guess I'll say Wind Waker due to it being so charming. It came out March 2003, so it's almost 8 years old? Man I didn't realise how old that game was now.

for me it's a tie between Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas (fingers crossed for ES:V!!!)

Oblivion just got better because I got a computer that could run it better than the xbox

So between 3 months and 5 years

Certain games i usually have to be in the mood to play but the one i always have time for is Tetris on my original game boy. since 1994. i reckon still having the same affection for a game after 16 years makes it my favourite.

It looked very crappy.
Its sequel fell victim to completely idiotic design choices.
But still, after 10 years, no game settled so strongly in my heart as the first Deus Ex.
Never again played a game where actual choice was a core-element of the game.

Okami was my favorite game til I play Persona 3 and 4 last year. I doubt anything will knock Persona 4 off it's throne until Persona 5 comes out.

I have two games that are tied at the very top of my "Best Game EVAR" list and they are Fallout 2 which was released in 1998 and Morrowind which was released in 2002.

For Discussion:

So...what's your favorite game of all-time, what year did it come out (or did you first play it), and has it constantly held that "best ever" position or have other games come and gone from your #1 all-time spot?

(fun fact: Since 1996, only three games---Final Fantasy VI, Alpha Centauri, and Rome---have held the #1 spot on my list.)
Eesh. This is pretty tough. I've got a few that could wrestle for the top spots. I might have to do a top ten just to appease my brain.

My all-time favorite is definitely Shadow of the Colossus. It came out in 2005, which makes it five years old or so. I've never encountered another game that has drawn me in as much as SotC did when I played through it. I still go back every once in a while and battle a colossus. It's relaxing in its own way. Amazing game.

And, for the record, it's been my all-time favorite since I played it for the first time, which was in 2006 or 2007. Before that, my all-time favorite was probably...

Ocarina of Time, which was out in 1998, which makes it thirteen years old. Majora's Mask was out in 2000, which makes it eleven years old. Both of those ate up a large chunk of my life when I was young, and for good reason; both are awesome adventure games. Just don't ask me to choose between them.

System Shock 2, which is an unbelievably good game, came out in 1999, so it's about twelve years old now. It might not be as pretty as BioShock, but damn if it isn't a better game.

Half-Life 2 only came out in 2004, so that makes it seven years old. Which seems crazy, because it's still used as a benchmark for so much in the gaming industry. Almost a decade old and it's still regarded as a huge milestone. Crazy. Episode One and Two came out in 2006 and 2007, respectively, but I regard them as part of the whole that is Half-Life 2.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was out in 2009, so only two years ago. Such an amazing game, and so unexpected from Rocksteady. Brilliant.

The Witcher came out in 2007, so that's four years ago now. If you haven't tried it yet, you really need to. It's an incredible fantasy role-playing game with an innovative combat system and a great world to explore. Cannot recommend it highly enough, and I absolutely cannot wait for the seqeul.

Company of Heroes was out in 2006, and still remains the best RTS game I've ever played. There has yet to be an RTS that emulates true tactical decisions and strategic planning as well as Company of Heroes does it. Not to mention the incredible destructible environments and beautiful graphics. Amazing game.

Assassin's Creed 2 came out in 2009. I regard it as one of my favorites, as opposed to the original or Brotherhood, because I truly believe it to be a better game than its brethren. It took the successes of the original and added to them, while cutting the chaff that made the original repetitive and boring. It's the only game that I've received a platinum trophy for, and I'm proud of that achievement (no joke intended).

Final Fantasy VIII and IX came out in 1999 and 2000, respectively, which make them each ten or eleven or so. The former is probably my favorite out of the two, but they are so close it's hard to call, so I'll just toss them both on there. I played VIII first, but I played further into IX, and both were just as compelling for me. (The only reason I stopped playing VIII was because I lost my copy. I still regret that day. Bought a new one recently, though! Mayhaps it's time to delve into again?) Honorable mention goes to X for being awesome as well!

Finally, I have to give massive props to Mass Effect for once again giving me hope in a sci-fi RPG. I probably enjoyed the sequel more, gameplay-wise, but I enjoyed the original's story far more, which puts the release date at 2007, so three years old. Thank you, Bioware, for creating such an amazing role-playing game with which to wile many hours away.

I better stop there before I end up composing a top-25 or something ridiculous. Even though I'm extremely tempted now... Ah well.

My #1 game is Civilization 3.

I believe it was released in 2002.

Other games that have been in the #1 spot: Zelda Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime, and Oblivion.

My Favourite game of all times turned 11 last december (less than a month ago)
and it's Planescape: Torment with one of the best stories in games ever great characters and most notably one of the strangest cities of all games
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planescape:_Torment#Development

also fun fact it's not my most played game (and I don't mean MMOs or games that artificially expand play time)
My most played game is Final Fantasy VIII (I just love the world the charas and foremost the junction system)

My favourite game studios are (as in I buy and love almost anything from them)
Interplay, Bioware, Blizzard, Squaresoft, Wolf Team(Tales series) and Atlus (everything on PS2 and PS3

Zelda Wind Waker, way back in 2003. But I didn't actually play it until Mid to late 2007. I find it to be a beautiful game with an amazing sense of scale. Unfortunately, I've lost it recently. It still holds a special place in my gaming history.

Since its release, It has been my number one favorite game of all time... No other game has topped it...

And that game is MediEvil... Which was released back in '98...

Still play it at least 3 times each year...
