The first game to ever hold that "all-time favorite game" title was The Legend of Mana. It released in 2000, but I got it in early 2002. We sold all of our Playstation games and console later that year to buy a GameCube, so I didn't get more than a few months with it. I recently bought it again last year and it was just as fun, but this time it had nostalgia along with it. I don't think it's my favorite game anymore, but it certainly is in the top 5.

My all-time favorite now would be Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind GotY for the Xbox (2003). I got it in 2005 for about $10, and it quickly got my full attention. I'd still play it if it wasn't that glitch-y on the Xbox 360. Oh well.

My favorite game is... thirteen this year.

Pokémon is still the greatest game I have ever played.
It is truly great. I'm playing through Crystal right now.

the original fable game
only about 6 years old

i was going to say oblivion but the uncanny valley rears its ugly head whereas fable had an enthralling morph system that distracted me from said immersion destroying monster

'Tis Morrowind, it came out in 2002, I have literally no idea when I first played it, it was a while ago. Within a month or two, it was my favourite game, and it hasn't changed since.

So yeah, it's fairly old.
Same here.

Mega Man X (Original) for SNES, turned 17yrs old on dec 18th. Still holds favorite game of all time to me, simple and good.

Recently they did a PSP version Remix/remake called Maverick Hunter X, was a solid game but due to the 3D nature was Slowed Down action wise.

X-2 X-3 still hold the runner ups, after that its supermario RPG then Devil May Cry 1.

I think Team Fortress 2 came out about 3 years now, so 3 years I guess.
Don't think I played it until it had been out about a year though, the PC version even later.

Doom. Released in 1993.

I first played it in 1997 on the PS1, and while other games - FFVII, City of Heroes - have at times surpassed it in my affection, that never lasted very long. Doom (and I include Doom II and Final in this) is the game I will always return to.

My all time favourite game, Team Fortress 2, was released October 10, 2007 and it has been my favourite game ever since I first played it back in 2008. Before that, the first place was shared by Battlefield 2 and Warcraft III.

Urm, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 came out... 2006 I think? Hang on, I'll check.
EDIT: Scratch that - "August 28th 2007"
It's only been topped by Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, but that's a direct sequel, so I don't count it as different. On my MHF2 save I've clocked around 1300 hours! (Plus 500 on MHFU)

Ah, but if you play as the Brutii it's pretty easy to capture provinces and wonders that will get you more money than you could ever spend.
Army maintenance is so cheap with the Julii (three main armies and an intelligent battle plan means minimal money spent on upkeep and a good management style with the cities means profits aplenty almost from Turn 1) that I can't imagine having MORE money. My city governors are all Extravagant Taste and Gourmand and other traits detrimental to their management skill. I send diplomats out to randomly bribe anything that moves just to keep the traits from triggering (they're tied to how much money is in your treasury.)

Gah, I really need to get hooked up with Doom. I've barely played it at all. I've recently started playing Marathon via the AlephOne engine, but it's a very different game despite the comparisons that pop up. Seems like both Marathon and Doom do what they each set out to do extremely well (though Marathon's level design is sometimes a tad on the sketchy side in the first game), but those are two very different things.

But I'm more or less in your position with Doom with Halo CE. So I suppose it would be nine years for me.

It's really hard to just pick one. I guess I'll say Counter-Strike: Source.

It came out 2004. But I had played several versions of Counter-Strike before that so it was more of a natural transition.

12 years. Homeworld has yet to be surpassed.
Good answer, good answer! For some reason, Homeworld still feels newish. Weird to think it's 12 years old.
