So, I'm bored as hell and I thought that it would be interesting to find out what the people of the escapist thought their "stats" were, using the dnd system of course. and I thought it would be cool to check that against the dnd point buy system to see how overpowered you think you are.
For those of you who don't know, here's an explanation of the stats.
Strength is exactly what it sounds like, how hard can you hit, how much can you carry, ect.
Dexterity is also pretty self explanatory. How agile you are, hand-eye coordination. How good your aim is with ranged weapons. Manual dexterity things as well.
Constitution is a little more complex. It's the basic how much of a beating can you take, but it's also how long can you hold your breath, and how long you can hustle without being fatigued, and how resistant you are to poisons(that includes alcohol)
Intelligence is reasoning power. Problem solving ability. How smart you are.
Wisdom is knowledge. How much do you know, and common sense. So this covers "book smarts" and common sense, basically. How well do you remember things once you've learned them is also an important aspect of wisdom.
Charisma is your ability to manipulate others with words basically. It's your force of personality, and how well you can use it. Are you a great liar, can you convince others to do what you want them to. That kind of thing.
1-2 in a stat is not going to happen. Not in a human, a human's stats range from 3-18
3-4 in a stat is virtually impossible in a human. A strength of this level, for example, would make it almost impossible for you to even lift a school-bag. You would be unable to walk at all while carrying anything over 30-40 pounds. A constitution of this level would be indicative of some sort of serious almost crippling disease.
5-6 in a stat is possible, but still seriously unlikely. an intelligence of this level is going to be mentally retarded.
7-8 in a stat is pretty likely. It's noticeably below average, but not completely hopeless. Someone with a dexterity of this level could still play sports that rely on hand-eye coordination without being a detriment to his team in gym class, but he's never going to be competitive either.
9-10 in a stat is average. Completely par for the course.
11-12 is noticably above average, but still very common. Nothing that anyone would take note of, but just a little bit better than average.
13-14 is good. At this level people notice that you're above average, but it's still not that impressive. It's uncommon, not rare. Most people would have one or two stats this high at least. You're good, not great.
15-16 is starting to get into the really good territory. You are significantly above average, you might even be excellent, but you aren't so good it's hard for people to believe.
17-18 is as good as it gets. Genius level intelligence. Worlds strongest man competition strength.
So, here's mine:
Strength: 15
Dexterity: 14
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 16
Wisdom: 16
Charisma: 13
And the point buy system is somewhat more complicated. Every stat starts at a base of 8. It takes 1 point to increase the stat by one until you reach 14. then to increase to 15 and then to 16 it costs 2 points to increase the stat by one. Then, to increase to 17 or 18 it costs 3 points to increase the stat by one. Any stats that you think are below 8 would count as -1 point for every point the stat is below 8.
so 6 is -2, 8 is 0, 10 is 2, 12 is 4, 14 is 6 points, 16 is 10 points, and 18 is 16 points.
So my point buy is:
str: 8
dex: 6
Con: 4
Int: 10
Wis: 10
Cha: 5
total: 43
