I abbreviate my name to "Cryst" and while people would be correct in pronouncing it as "Crist" (like crystal), I prefer it to sound like "Crysis". It sounds cooler, religious allusions aside.

And my real name? Don't get me started on that one. Don't have a French name in an English-speaking country is the only advice I can give you. It is not "Alexan-dray" for crying out loud!

Annoying when my younger relatives keep calling me "Kim or Jim" Its Tim damnit. its not that difficult to say, only 3 letters. as for my name on here, most people think "you just ripped that off Final Fantasy." firstly, I never knew there was a character called Zidane". secondly, it's spelt and pronounced Zy-a-day-ne".

I'm planning to get a legal name change later though, I despise my real name.

I can think of atleast 1 common "mistake" that you would get called.

well, my name's Jaymes, it's pronounced exactly like James, there's just a silent y in there...

somehow, this drives people f'kin bonkers. I get "Jay-mes" "Jimes" "Haime" all the time... so now, I just introduce myself as such: "hiya, I'm James, with a y." I usually get a "wut" or two, but I find it helps.

It's been spelt: Alistir, Alistar, Alistair, Alisdair, Alastar, Alastair, Alastir, Alasdir, Alasdar, and, once or twice, "Ali" (as in the Arabic name).

It's pronounced "Ah-Las-dare", but it's been pronounced "Al-ee-stair" "Ah-lee-ster" "Alaz-diy-ear" and all manner of qausi-Arabic names

Also, in my youth (and occasionally today) people think they're being HILARIOUS and original when they call me "Ali G"

It's mainly on Facebook, but if some of my friends of friends are talking to me in a mates status, they'll say, "oh, Emile, Emily, Emiliee..." despite it being in my fucking name! Right in front of their eyes! Grrr!

My last name is just a joke, I've never gone into a place like a jon interview or doctors for them to pronounce it right. It's always, "Martian, Masham. Marshall, Marsden..." Ughh. I'll be changing it soon anyway.

The only times I hear it mispronounced is when some Americans say it (not trying to be mean, but they are the only ones I've ever heard say it wrong. And not all Americans do, only some).
