I'm kind of known by a lot of people, not well liked but not disliked very much. Only usually notice hate for me during PE because I actually try. Without cheating.

I'm unpopular because I don't wear Abercrombie and Hollister clothing and have an earring like every other guy in my school.

Somehow, that really makes sense to me.

As for the people being socially successful, I think this essay pretty much sums up whatever arguments I could make, except he's better at it.

Depends on where you live.

To be socially successful here, you must:

1)Absolutely know nothing of computers, if you can distinguish between the Monitor and Computer, you are automatically a nerd.

2) Buy all your clothes from Hollister/Abercrombie & Fitch/American Eagle; Designers clothes are an alternative.

3) You must listen to purely Rap/Hip-Hop. Anything else is out of the question.

4) You must not read, reading is for losers.

5) You must not play video games, except Madden.

6) You must be obsessed with American Football. Actual Futbol is blasphemy.

7) You must be over-zealous about believing in a god.

8) You must be against Gay Marriage.

9) How could I forget this? You must be an ignorant dumbass. GPA's higher than 2.0 are unacceptable. (That's a C average here...)

There's probably a few more that I can't think of. I don't want to be socially 'accepted' in a place like this.

Edit: Added number 9)

The first three years of my secondary school were hell; I had a few close(ish) friends but we were more or less the only people who didn't act like tools which alienated us from most others in our class. There was two people who despised me (I think), because me and my friends were 'skaters' whilst the rest of our class were what can only be described as 'chavs'. I also had a habit of talking back to them and taking the piss in a way that they didn't get. Might not have helped, but that's the way I am...
Things changed in the fourth year though, where I went from guy on the outter edge to the centre of a larger group of friends, who accepted me for who I was; 'the smart but sound one' (their words).
I enjoyed the last two years of secondary school so much, I miss it now...

If you were to look up "nerd" in the dictionary, you would see my picture, but I have a close group of friends, so it doesn't bother me much.

I'm a bit of a nerd, but still popular enough not to be picked on. Some people in my year still don't know me after four years, but they're all chavs and emos so I'm not especially bothered.

I know prety much everone in my sixthform and can call most of them friends. Im cool with the rest of them cos i was alwasy "that guy" who never lead or set the trends and never even took part in most of them, but you could always kick back and have a laugh with him and could be counted on to be himself. Took me two years to learn that and it paid off.

Here's a tip. don't give a shit. it really doesnt matter cuz every one who isn't you sucks anyways.
Oh, don't give a shit, seems like a real help to alot of people... The fact is that you are supposed to care, cuz it'll help you change ^^. Now you may think me shallow cuz i buy boxers costing 20 euros each, or jeans that are to expensive, just cuz it's fashion or has a logo on it, but dressing good.. Gives people a good first impression, and all you gotta do after that is being open and easy to talk with. plus, it helps with getting girls.

Actually when I see someone who spends a lot of money on expensive clothes. I think "Wow what a douchebag, that guy's probably an idiot."
I don't think that's a good first impression.

That's just your opinion, and not every single thing you are wearing has to be expensive, but look good. Re-read what i typed and you can see it... And you don''t see me spending the money :). And how else do you want to give a good impression besides looking good? Ofcourse confident, but ussualy those people that are the people well-dressed.

I'm not exactly unpopular at school but I isolated myself outside of school so I don't speak to anybody. Its a long story... and a depressing one. But I'm ok.

The good thing about Ireland is that none of this matters. Theres no "Popular Group", no "Reject Group". Everyone gets on grand with each other and has a laugh. I myself have long hair and listen to metal, but id still consider some of the scumbags/chavs/whatever-the-hell-you-call-them to of been my friends. Everyone knows everyone in theyre own year, sure, theyll know about people in other years but not because theyre popular or well liked, its normally just because theyd be on a sports team or are always getting in trouble, but that doesnt make them popular. A lot of people in my school were well known, but because they were fucking dicks.
