I vote for: The Warhammer 40.000 way. Because hatred and intolerance is just sooo cool in an interstellar setting. XD
I agree with him, but it will be useless unless we develop either Ordo Xenos, An Imperial Guard equivelent or Space Marines

Space is big and surely once we work out the difficulties on how to travel those distances, we will find inhabitable planets, with no intelligent species on it, so no reason to go as conquerers, though.... *checks history books* we migth be doing it anyway.

EDIT: Interesting question I asked myself after posting on this thread, what would happen if we humans were the most advanced of all intelligent species?

Well, The Ordo Xenos weren't around in the beginning. In fact, the Inquisition was formed AFTER the Horus Heresy. So I guess we'll need space marines to have an Ordo Xenos down the line. Also we need to treat hese space marines badly and insult them by letting mere humans boss them around despite the fact that it was the space marines who conquered the galaxy for mankind and all that.

Oh also, the leader of those space marines have to make a pact with daemons.

But after all and the eventual cataclysmic war that follows have been completed, we'll get an Ordo Xenos! :p

One political ideology per planet would be so awesome. Imagine living on a planet where almost everyone agrees on all the big, important stuff... I know people would just find bigger things to worry about, but I still think it would work better than what we have now.
Yeah, that would be the ideal. Communists can live on the communist planet, and capitalists can live on he capitalist planet, and there will be no need for anyone to bother the other... But humans being humans, they will find somethign to bicker and go to war about eventually. At the very least though, the chance for the species extinction would be a lot slimmer than it is now.

Even if the communist or capitalist planets were wiped out completely, there would still be humans on other worlds. If our species wipe itself out here over our pointless bickering, then everybody will be gone forever.

But first we need the emporer to make the origional geneseed. But before that we need to have the age of strife and invent evil robot servants

Hope for the best, but crank up paranoia and Machiavellian plotting to eleven.

After all, it would be the survival of our entire race on the line. One wrong impression one way or other could make the entire first contact a war of annihilation, but if we're paranoid bastards right from the beginning then the information the alien race has on us would be far, far less and / or mostly useless. Giving us a better change to win a conflict. On the other hand, if everything goes well, we can later apologize.

Eh, I'm all for peace with certain xenos.
Or maybe, as at least one other said, the W40K approach...
Suffer not the alien to live. Or the heretic. Or the witch. Or the ginger mutant.

I'm not a fluff nerd, but the Astartes were hardly treated badly. It's not really reasonable to expect them to remain at the forefront of the Crusade at every level forever, and that seems to be all the Emperor's "betrayal" was.

Screw Hawkins! When I run for president, one of my platforms would be "Moon Colony by 2049!". I think that if we really try we can get onto the moon within 20 years.

As for Aliens, I am hoping to practice the American way of Diplomacy: Peace until fired at (Iraq doesn't count).

Suffer not the alien to live. It is mankind's manifest destiny to rule supreme. And it's not like the Warmaster of such a military undertaking could go traitor or anything.

Well. We SHOULD accept them with open arms. You know, exchanges. Depending on how different that species is (it could be a hivemind built out of million single-cell organisms, for example) we should send scientists and historians and explorers to them, and accept theirs.

But if you see how xenophobic we are against other humans, it's not a stretch to believe that many terrorist morons will try to destroy the aliens. Perhaps one of those morons will be a leader, in which case we'll have an interspecies war on our hands.
