How should humans deal with space travel and alien contact if the time ever comes?

Either way we need to build a galactic empire, I want to travel through space. I chose my answers based on the fact that humans have not been able to stop killing/hating each other so what chance do we have of being able to not kill/hate aliens? Maybe we could build a Mass Effect type empire and council if we are very lucky (or forced to by superior firepower).


EDIT: If anything this thread has shown that gamers will either save humanity from aliens or completely fuck us over with our kill it first auto response. I must admit I do enjoy the =I= mindset though. Also Machiavelli would play a huge part in building the 40k universe.

If we'll ever get in touch with alien species, first of all we need another mental state in our own yard. We can't get along with ourselves, most of us are living their lives in order to be able to survive. We should need to reach the point where humanity is working for an improved species, aka the humans or terrans. The houses and other necessities should be no problem to achieve and everyone would get to work for a brighter future, a better planet, a better species. I don't want to go offtopic but it's not offtopic imo. Before we think about first contact, we should think about our mediocre society/societies.

If we would have first contact with an alien species that is more evolved than us, in the state that we are, then god help us, they won't stand our stupidity.

And if we are to make first contact with a less evolved species, god help them because we are a specie of tards and greedy selfish sociopaths.

Navy ships and armed marines. I don't mean show up and kill them all. Try to communicate with them and talk. Make translators. Build alliances.

If we are treated as hostile the only response they will get is a 500 megaton nuclear warhead.

Also stephen hawking said that, Humanity probably fit's into a small percentage of life that survives the discovery that E=mc2. I have a feeling that travel to mars isn't that far away... and I think space travel isn't too far either, though a faster means like warp or slip-space will need to be discovered. CERN may provide answers.

Beyond than, the classic teraforming model is probably all we really need.
Move about, teraform, settle and we spread all of Earth's population out among about... 10-20 planets, really increase our survival rate doing that.

As for interacting with aliens, we'll probably have "protocols" for that by the time space travel is wide-spread.
