It mildly frightens me that a video game website has any effect on your faith in humanity but everyone has their own priorities.

I've been coming here for almost seven years. The website has had some highs and has had a lot of lows. People claim that the Escapist has changed or that the users have changed and that they're never coming back ever again or that they now love The Escapist again.

I will just continue to sit here and smile with my popcorn as the same pattern keeps repeating itself. People will come and people will go but as Ron Pearlman once said: "Internet; Internet never changes" (I'm almost 99% sure that's how that quote goes...).

Right on. I think it was something about Ward, though. Talking to people who've been here through over seven rule changes really helps shape your perspective of time and change.

Eh, there's been some ups and downs recently, that's fer sure. Some people even think the site might go down soon. I'm willing to wait until all this hirin' and firin' settles down. Jim Sterling was certainly a big loss. Though, the one thing that scares me is the apolitical stance they're apparently bringing in. Still, change happens. Not much you can do about it.

To be fair I've haven't seen much dislike for her on this site at-least, apathy seems rightfully targeted towards the new transphobic guy. In Liz's case I'm happy to wait and see what she produces.

As long as it keeps politics out of it. If I see a game get docked a point because of its perspective on maritime law or proper docking procedures it's going to get the same treatment the rest of those yahoos got.

While I do not agree with this new dude, no doubt there are plenty of people who do, and would welcome his addition to the site. For them, his welcoming to the site is a good one, and a harbinger of good tidings to come. Not someone to fear, or to believe is a cause of a sinking ship. For many people, the Escapist is actually getting better, rather than worse. To cast their opinions aside as non-existent is incredibly dishonest, even if my own opinion aligns with yours.

Unless you offer the alternative. A side that considers the issue black and white "good" vs "evil". If that's the case, then we certainly do not align. But you're a smart enough guy to rise above that pettiness, I'm sure, given from past posts of yours I've read.

(And this is coming from someone who has very little to do with either side of GamerGate).

I discussed Gamergate because I cared about ethics. I discussed Gamergate because I cared about censorship. I discussed Gamergate because I cared about ideological manipulation. But, I started discussing Gamergate because I?m a mother. A mother who?s child was being misunderstood. A mother who?s child was being attacked. A mother who saw a woman ? a privileged, spoiled woman ? talking about things she?s never lived and could never understand. A mother who watched this woman vilify all of the things I love most about my child ? her ability to focus, to understand, to slow down, and most importantly, to be, and love, herself. And that pissed me off.

There's a lot more, read the first part, and prepare to feel, she's also funny and based.

So yeah, I'm also here because Liz came on board, don't know Brandon, but I can see people have tried to put everything out of context with him.

I dunno, that's still a kinda shitty attitude to have with transgender people.

If you don't want to use pronouns like do, re, mi, fa, so, la and ti then that's fine I guess. I'm not entirely sure why they're necessary myself when neutral pronouns like they/them exist but that doesn't seem to be what his problem is. There's this idea that transgender people are somehow "pretending" to be the "other" sex which is downright insulting.

I don't have the best impression of him so far, I can tell you that.

From what I've seen Liz is slightly problematic but very tame compared to Bob Chipman. Most of the hate she receives comes from people that the term "social justice warrior" (in its original sense) could legitimately apply to. That is, people telling her to kill herself for implying that white people can be oppressed sometimes and that sometimes men have a hard time.

I don't particularly care if people think he's a welcome addition, I know what I've read, and it puts a bad taste in my mouth. Now that's grand, I'm sure my opinion of the man matters just as little as anyone else's in the grand scheme of things, but the entire point of this Escapist 'overhaul' was to bring 'more fun' back to the site.

I see the entirely opposite taking place.
